Georgetown Lombardi Leader Installed as Chair of Medical Oncology
In recognition of his extraordinary achievements in cancer research, education and patient care, Michael B. Atkins, MD, deputy director of Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, has been named the Dr. Scholl Chair of Medical Oncology.


Making Friends and Making a Difference Through Service
More than 80 medical students took advantage of the opportunity to give back to the community at organizations around Washington, D.C. by participating in the School of Medicine's Day of Service, organized by the Learning Societies Advisory Committee. 




Rebeck Honored at Georgetown's Fall Faculty Convocation
Georgetown University President John J. DeGioia awarded a 2017 President's Award for Distinguished Scholar-Teachers to G. William Rebeck, PhD, MFA, a professor of neuroscience at Georgetown University Medical Center.


Bryant Gumbel Named 2017 NFL Players Association Georgetown Lombardi Award Recipient
Emmy Award-winning television journalist and sportscaster Bryant Gumbel will be honored by Georgetown Lombardi and the NFL Players Association at the 31st annual Lombardi Gala on November 18.

Stukel Completes Seven Marathons on Seven Continents
In June 2014, Nick Stukel (SOM/MSB'18) ran the Laguna Phuket Marathon in Thailand to raise money for Musicians on Call, an organization that brings music to patients in health care facilities. On October 22, Stukel ran the Marine Corps Marathon, achieving his goal of running seventh marathon on seven continents. Read about his journeys here

Student Team Wins Lauerman Cup Golf Tournament
For the first time in the tournament's history, a student team has won the Lauerman Cup. Sponsored by Dahlgren Memorial Library, the winning team (score; 58) included: Brian McCormick, (M'20); Douglass Johnson, (M'20); Andrew Horn, (M'20); and Cooper Ehlers, (M'21). Through the generosity of sponsors, golfers and donors, more than $25,000 was raised to benefit the Medical Student Life Scholarship Fund. Five medical students were honored with $5,000 scholarships for their commitment to the School of Medicine.

Research from Georgetown University Medical Center and George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health finds that gifts of any size from pharmaceutical companies affect the number and cost of prescriptions issued by physicians and other health care providers.
 




Team of Georgetown Students Compete in D.C. Public Health Case Competition

Georgetown students from a range of disciplines received a Harrison C. Spencer Interprofessional Prize after competing in the fifth annual D.C. Public Health Case Challenge at the National Academy of Sciences.
