A GSU member has requested clarification on the "Temporary Performance of Higher Duties" provision of their collective agreement.  The employee feels they are performing duties that are above the job description set out for their position.

When employees are assigned to do duties that are above their job description, they are entitled to be paid the proper rate of pay for the period they are assigned to the increased responsibility. GSU staff rep Lawrence Maier is looking into the matter and will be communicating with the member before any further action is taken.

Contact your GSU staff rep for assistance with questions or concerns.

Your inquiry will be treated with strict confidentiality. Contact information for our staff reps is available here

Community gathers for the Saskatoon and District Labour Council's Labour Day BBQ

Through collective action of unionized workers, Saskatoon and District Labour Council (SDLC) advocates for social justice and fairness in the community. GSU's Dale Markling sits on the  SDLC executive as a representative of GSU and he was happy to help out at the SDLC's free Labour Day barbeque in Saskatoon's Victoria Park on Sept. 4.

As they do every year, affiliated unions and organizations provided live entertainment, children's activities, swag, treats and information. Event organizers were pleased that a  large crowd came out to enjoy a beautiful autumn day and help  celebrate the achievements of working people and recognize the contributions unions make to the well-being of our communities.

Brilliant idea? Jot it down

A great idea hits you and the concept is so fantastic you couldn't possibly forget it. Or could you?

There is no way we can remember the t housands of thoughts that run through our heads every day. When you have a stroke of brilliance, be sure to jot down your ideas before your brain has a chance to file them away. And don't forget to check back to put your ideas into action.
