THE  PROVIDENCE  PEN
September - November

There are new and familiar faces at Providence in 2017-18!

DEAR FRIENDS:

Providence is a unique school because each student is unique. This school fulfills a desperate need--a small tutorial environment with a big heart for tailoring our instruction to each child's God-given design. We strive to make Christian schooling possible for vulnerable students in our neighborhoods--those unlikely to enjoy such an opportunity without the generosity of the Friends of Providence.

Central Pennsylvania needs a school like Providence Christian Academy, and we are grateful for those of you who have given time, talent, or treasure to this work.

The time I have spent in the last few years talking to and visiting friends in Scotland and the surrounding community have made me realize that others share similar concerns and see a real need for our mission. Those we have visited and those who have toured through have been enthusiastic about what they have heard and seen. Their support and yours also has changed the lives of faculty and students.

We are committed to keeping you updated on the progress you have made possible.

  • 2017-18 - NEW SCHOOL YEAR - NEW FRIENDS  - We are thankful for new and familiar faces in our classrooms during another completed quarter at Providence. If you know a child who would benefit from our unique tutorial approach, please point their family in our direction. We typically add students during the school year, and we have openings. See below.
  • READING FOR CHANGE
    -
Providence students have accepted the Reading for Change open book challenge. Find out more here. Thus far, our sponsors have raised over $2,500 for this worthy cause. Additionally, Shippensburg Public Library has provided a 100 book grant, while LifeGuide Financial Services, McDonalds, Cumberland Valley Tree Service, and F & M Trust have all signed on as sponsors in response to Reading for Change!  Thank you to friends and families of students who have given generously to encourage our readers.
  • VOLUNTEER HELP NEEDED  - Perhaps you could lend your expertise to the school. Call us at (717) 298-8090 to discuss how you could change lives with your available time and talent.
  • PROVIDENCE STEAM  - Tuesday afternoons in 2017-18 are now a combination of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math--Providence STEAM! In addition to Art with Mrs. Fitzpatrick and Mr. Hannaman, Mr. Tom Clark and Mr. Jack Hull have introduced 4th through 7th Grade students to a major model railroading project that incorporates hands-on cooperative group work that teaches the application of knowledge across the curriculum. We are eager to see the finished project!
  • PROVIDENCE 360
Our most recent events in this unique curricular approach include:
    • Friday, September 8 th - Drums on the Conococheague - a Native American Powwow at Conococheague Institute
    • Thursday Afternoons - Every other Thursday at Cumberland Valley School of Music for keyboarding lessons for Grades 4th to 12th.
    • Thursday, October 19th - Shippensburg Public Library, Book Nook, and Britton Park
These were all wonderful opportunities for learning beyond the building.

  FRIENDS OF PROVIDENCE CAMPAIGN

Give all  praise and glory to God, as we are now in our third academic year--and without debt. The gifts of God's people for God's work at Providence are crucial, particularly in these last few giving months of 2017. Please consider an end of 2017 gift to help us strengthen our mission to vulnerable children.  Our goal is to raise at least $20,000 in the next few months. Please be in prayer about how you might play a role in supporting this vital mission. Glory to God for His all-sufficient providence thus far!
