From Dr. Powers

Congratulations!
The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) released the annual school report cards for 2017, and the results for Jones are very good. While there is a mass of data in the report, the most important measure for college readiness is the average SAT score. In our first year giving the SAT to all juniors (Class of 2018), the JCP average was 1247. There were only 14 high schools in the state that had an average of 1200 or higher. Jones ranked 4th. As reported in the Tribune:
Of the 14 schools exceeding 1200 on the SAT, CPS selective enrollment schools were at the top of the list: Payton, Northside, Young, Jones and Lane Tech. In the suburbs, the top-scoring SAT schools were New Trier Township, Stevenson, Lake Forest, Libertyville, Deerfield, Hinsdale Central, Neuqua Valley, Glenbrook North and Hersey.
Test scores are not everything, but they do provide a valuable shorthand indicator of our students' academic achievement and preparedness for college.
This is very exciting news, something of which we can all be proud! Thanks again for all your efforts!
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at any time at 773-534-8606 or
[email protected].
Sincerely,
P. Joseph Powers, Ph.D.

Boys Cross Country
At the City Championships, the Eagles earned a trophy at all four levels (freshmen, sophomore, JV and varsity) for the fourth year in a row. Keeping two streaks alive,
the freshmen team won their impressive
eighth City Championship in a row, while the JV team took home their sixth City Title in a row.
Both teams also boasted the individual city champion and runner-up in those races, as seniors Ruben Coronel and Jesse Shufro-Zletz combined to go "1-2" respectively in the JV race and freshmen Aaron Hou and Michael Sommese took first and second place, respectively, in the freshmen division.
T
he boys' performances marked the eighteenth and nineteenth City Titles that the Eagles have taken home over the last six years out of the twenty-four total championships contested.
Going back seven years, a Jones team has
now taken home twenty-one out of the twenty-eight titles up for grabs.
Congratulations Eagles Cross Country Runners!!
