District Leadership That Works:
Connecting Strategic Vision, Action, and Results Across Your System

June 26-28, 2018

Denver, CO

This event has been canceled.
If you are interested in this professional learning for your district team, please contact us at 800.858.6830 or info@mcrel.org to discuss options for delivering the session at your location.

Discover the specific district-level leadership activities and behaviors that research shows are most connected to student and staff success, and how these responsibilities apply to the actions of superintendents, school boards, and central office staff.

During this 3-day session, participants will learn the principles of high-reliability systems and the actions used in healthcare, aviation, and other complex industries, and how these principles can be effectively applied to education systems. Determine the current state of your district systems and begin to map steps toward improving the quality of instruction and reducing variability in instructional quality within and among your schools. Participants will also receive extended virtual coaching during 2018-19 school year.

Session learnings include:

  • Understanding the power of research (the 6 DLTW components)
  • Collaborative goal setting
  • Establishing non-negotiable goals for achievement and instruction
  • Creating board alignment with district goals
  • Monitoring progress
  • Allocating resources to support goals
  • Defined autonomy
  • Improvement-to-innovation pathways
  • Reflection and application: developing a plan of action
