It's Not Too Late to Collaborate:
Team Up with Louisiana CUs for Next Week's ICU Day Events
Let's Work Together to Increase CU Awareness and Give Back to Local Businesses!

Participate in our 6th Annual CU Lunch Local event and support local businesses in your community during the week of October 16-20.
LCUL provides everything you need to get in on the action. All we need is your participation (which is super easy).

Since LCUL launched CU Lunch Local in 2013, Louisiana credit unions have given back more than $74,000 to local businesses. This is certainly something to brag about, but lets make it even more!

Other International Credit Union Day Celebrations:

  • LCUL has partnered with Gas Station TV (GSTV) and CU Solutions Group (CUSG) to help you support the great credit union story, increase awareness and engage new members. We will run 20-second commercials  that showcase the value of local credit unions at GSTV stations in Louisiana. The week-long promotion will be shown at 222 stations, delivering over 780K impressions!  Click here to view the video ad.
  • LCUL will be releasing it's 2016 Economic Impact Report along with graphics for credit unions to share on social media. Additional information will be sent later this week. Stay tuned!

Reminder: Prized Linked Savings Enrollment Open Until November 1
Lucky Lagniappe Savings is the unique, statewide prize-linked savings program that offers your members a chance to win cash prizes for saving money! Here's how it works:
  • For every $20 in month-over-month balance increases, accountholders earn one entry into monthly and quarterly cash prize drawings - including the $5,000 annual grand prize.
  • Your credit union can also have drawings just for your members.
Lucky Lagniappe Savings is possible through our partnership with the Minnesota Credit Union Network, who just reported that Minnesota credit unions have opened 5,192 accounts with members saving more than $4 million dollars since the inception of their prize linked savings product.

Don't delay: Credit unions interested in participating in the January 1 launch must register as a participant by November 1.

2nd  Quarter 2017 LA Credit Union Profiles & Milestones Report Available
LCUL works with CUNA's Economics & Statistics Department to analyze quarterly data submitted by credit unions to NCUA and then provides a quarterly report showing trends in various areas including loan & savings growth, risk trends, membership trends, and more.

We also provide a "milestones" report that looks at top credit unions in the areas of loan penetration, share draft penetration, and average savings balances; this report also highlights credit unions that have reached and exceeded certain amounts for assets, members, and loans.

The reports for the 2nd Quarter of 2017 are now complete and have been posted to the League's website. Click here to access the reports.

*Milestones report now includes a breakdown by asset size.

CUs See Major Reg Relief Improvement in Final Payday Rule
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's (CFPB) final short-term, small-dollar rule appears to have addressed many concerns addressed by CUNA, leagues and credit unions, which is a big win for the credit union movement. CUNA is still analyzing the nearly 1,700-page final rule.

Professional Development

Last Chance: Help Us Meet Your Training Needs in 2018
LCUL distributed an online survey last week to learn more about the wants and needs of Louisiana credit unions when it comes to professional development.

In an effort to make sure we are providing our credit unions with timely information and highly sought after topics/speakers, please complete the education survey before October 13.

We thank you for your time and your input on this very important initiative. For more information, feedback, or access to the survey, contact the League's education department.

Have You Heard?

Cockerham and Stelly Earn CUDE Designation
Forty-six credit union professionals became Credit Union Development Educators (CUDEs) after being guided by dedicated facilitators and mentors through the intensive Credit Union Development Education (DE) Training from the National Credit Union Foundation. The DE training was held September 13 - 20, 2017 at the Lowell Center in Madison, Wis.

Louisiana has two new CUDEs ready to take on the credit union world. Congratulations to Lloyd Cockerham (Ascension CU) and  Pamela Stelly (Maple FCU) for completing the rigorous requirements to become DEs.

During the recent week-long program, participants were involved in group exercises, field trips, discussions with speakers from around the credit union system, and are required to complete team projects proposing solutions for credit unions to help alleviate or eliminate challenging situations in any given area.

For this training's final case studies, participants worked through and presented solutions to critical issues that included financial stability among young adults and families, credit union board development, building microfinance programs in the Philippines, credit union solutions to predatory lending, the increasing issue of homelessness in America, and rejuvenating a stagnant credit union.

Special thanks to Michelle Jinks (Access of Louisiana FCU) who joined the group as a mentor.

The Foundation is holding four DE Trainings next year, all taking place in Madison, Wis. Anyone interested in participating in one of the 2018 DE Trainings can visit ncuf.coop to learn more or they can email [email protected] to be put on a notification list for when registration opens up.

Neighbors FCU Announces Randy Pastuszek as Vice President of Enterprise Solutions
Neighbors is proud to name Randy Pastuszek Vice President of Enterprise Solutions at Neighbors Federal Credit Union. Randy started with Neighbors nine years ago as a Financial Services Officer. He later served as a Business Services officer and most recently as Assistant Vice President of Enterprise Solutions.

Pastuszek had a key role in launching Neighbors Enterprise Solutions Department in September 2016. Randy was charged with hiring and training all new department trainees from the ground up with the assistance of a focus group.
"There was an idea of what we wanted but no how-to guide," Pastuszek said. "The Enterprise Solutions Department was a completely new department to Neighbors and to most credit unions that we associate with."

Pastuszek currently serves in the 2018 Leadership Livingston program with the Livingston Parish Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, he volunteers for Baton Rouge Children Advocacy Center's Celebrity Waiter Event and Pat's Coats For Kids charity events.

"Randy has demonstrated the drive and desire to do what is necessary to continue to enhance our credit union," Neighbors president and CEO Steve Webb said. "He did an incredible job launching our Enterprise Solutions department, and we're confident the department will continue to thrive under his leadership."
Quote of the Week:
