Number of Adults Living Alone on the Rise
 
Our new Family Profile "Twenty-Five-Year Trends in Living Alone in the U.S., 1990 & 2015" examines trends in living alone by gender, marital status, and age group. The age pattern of women living alone has remained stable over the past 25 years, with the majority aged 65 and older. Among men living alone, the percentage who were younger adults (ages 18-44) decreased from 33% to 20% between 1990 and 2015, while the percentage of older adults increased from 33% to 48%.

Manning, Payne, & Stykes Examine Value of County-level Data to Study Marriage

IOS Press recently published research by Wendy D. Manning, Krista K. Payne, and Bart J. Stykes titled "Counting marriages in the United States: The value of county-level administrative data."

The colleagues compiled 2010 county-level administrative marriage data from over 3000 counties, finding a wide variation in marriage rates within states.
