This Friday, 7:00 pm - Community Simchat Torah Service!
Simchat Torah is when we celebrate the completion of the annual reading of the Torah and affirm Torah as one of the pillars on which we build our lives. As part of the celebration, the Torah scrolls are taken from the ark and carried (or sometimes danced!) around the synagogue. During the Torah service, the concluding section of the fifth book of the Torah, D'varim (Deuteronomy), is read, and immediately following, the opening section of Genesis, or B'reishit as it is called in Hebrew, is read.
The Schwartz-List Family will be sponsoring the oneg in honor of
Luke and Zachary Schwartz's Bar Mitzvah.

Only 2 Weeks Left to Sign-up and Donate for Stop Hunger Now
 On Saturday, October 21, TBC will be participating in the 7th annual Rise Against Hunger (formerly Stop Hunger Now) packaging event in Wilton. Last year we packaged over 167,000 meals that were sent to Haiti. TBC was well represented by about 90 volunteers.
Our goal is to package over 160,000 meals this year and raise $3,500 as a Congregation that will fund 12,000 meals to be sent to hungry children in developing countries. If you would like to support this event, send a check to TBC and note that it is for Rise Against Hunger or contribute when you
sign up to volunteer. This year each meal costs $0.29!
Don't forget that children 5 and older can help (our 5-year-olds last year had a fantastic time and really contributed!). If you have any questions, please feel free to contact

Route 7 Closing Set for October 13-16
Another closing of Route 7 in Branchville is planned for this weekend, starting Friday. October 13, at 8:00 pm, according to John Dunham, district engineer with the state Department of Transportation.
The closure is expected to stop before Monday, October 16 at 6:00 am.
Each of the five previous highway closures, which have all been weekend-long affairs, have sent all of Route 7's traffic - thousands of vehicles a day - through town on a detour via Route 102 and Route 35.
The state has been closing the highway so its contractor can complete repair work at a bridge on Route 7 just north of the Route 102 intersection, near the Little Pub.

"Freedom Song" Musical at B'nai Israel - October 29

B'nai Israel is hosting a performance of Freedom Song. We would like to invite you, your students, congregants and anyone who spends time with teens or adults. Freedom Song is a transformative musical that will shatter the myth of Jews being immune to addiction. By interweaving a Passover Seder with personal stories of addiction, Freedom Song poses one stark question: What are you a slave to? "The cast of Freedom Song is not a cast of actors; they are actual addicts in recovery that have broken off the shackles of drugs, alcohol, gambling, and other destructive behaviors. They all found help at Beit T'shuvah in Los Angeles, a unique residential treatment center and community. The show was also written and produced by residents of Beit T'shuvah. Our tradition tells us that an integrated Jewish life involves head, heart and hand - study, spirituality and social action.
Explore all of these on your terms, with your personal interests, through a new initiative called
Chai Mitzvah
.
You will participate in a learning group that meets every other month with a specially-designed curriculum that focuses on real life, relevant issues.
You will also choose an individual study topic that is personally interesting to you, adopt a new ritual or deepen an existing practice, and engage in a social action activity.
Then, at the end of this two-year program, you can celebrate your journey!

TBC Diaper Collection Project!
The TBC Social Action Committee is seeking donations of diapers and wipes to benefit the Community Action Agency of Western Connecticut and the Domestic Violence Crisis Center, Stamford, and Person-to-Person, Norwalk. For most parents, diapers for babies is a given. If you are living in poverty, however, they are often a luxury.

It is traditional to light a memorial candle on the eve of the yahrzeit at home and to recite Kaddish when lighting the yahrzeit candle. It is also a custom to make donations in memory of loved ones around the time of yahrzeit.
