Booster Club Calendar Raffle

 

The Monroe Township High School Booster Club is the only organization that provides support for ALL Monroe Township High School athletes. The funds that the club collects through membership dues and fundraising activities are used to provide financial support to recognize our student athletes.

 

In each of the last two years we award over $5300 to graduating Senior Athletes through 32 scholarships.  5 Scholarships are awarded at Senior Awards Night and the other 27 are given to a Senior MVP for each Varsity sport at our Senior Athletic Luncheon.  You can see a list of last year's recipients' on our website, mtbcathletes.com.  Our goal is to increase the number of scholarships awarded each year.  In order to help us achieve this goal we are running a Calendar Raffle.

Each raffle costs $15 and you have 90 chances to win between January 1^st, 2018 and March 31^st, 2018.  One winner every day!  Prizes range from $25 to $75.  Over $2,900 in prizes will be awarded.  If you win, your ticket will be put back in so you can win again!!!

They make great stocking stuffers, holiday gifts or just some fun for you.  Get them before December 25^th, 2017.

Dear Parents and Staff,

The Middle School PTO Fall Fundraisers are in full swing! The PTO provides funds to support various activities throughout the school and helps to promote the welfare of the children in school, home and community. We thank you for your continued support!

 

The Rt. 9 Community Discount Card: Sale will begin on September 15 - October 27. Each discount card costs $20, of which 50% goes directly back to the PTO. The number 1 benefit of this discount card is that it is  reusable, and not a 1 time coupon! You can use this card as often as you like, until December 2018. This card can be used at places such as Modell's, TGIF, Chili's, etc. from Old Bridge to Howell. There are many local places in Jamesburg and Monroe such as Baker's American Grill, Bagel Bazaar, Vine, Bella Italia, Tuscany, etc. Please check our website for more information on places the card can be used.  If you don't have a child in the Middle School, and would like to purchase a card to support the MTMS PTO, please email  [email protected]

 

MTMS PTO Membership:  Please send in your PTO Membership ASAP, $10 per family. The PTO provides so many "extras" to our students to enhance their Middle School Experience. Membership can be sent back in the Discount Card/Membership Envelope or in a separate envelope labeled:  PTO Membership.

 

Fall Box Tops Contest: Our first Box Tops Collection is due into school by October 20. Please start sending in your box tops to have your child entered in a contest to win a $10 gift card (1 gift card winner per grade).  For every 25 box tops submitted, your child will earn 1 raffle ticket that will be entered into the drawing. The more box tops that are brought in, the more chances to win a prize! Check www.mtmspto.org to find some more easy ways to collect Box Tops. Please send in your box tops in an envelope marked "Box Tops" with your child's name, team, and homeroom teacher. Students can also drop their box tops in the "Box Top" bins located around the school.

 

MTMS PTO Fall Apparel Sale:  If you didn't have an opportunity to purchase your Spirit Wear at the Back to School Nights, please take a look at the attached flyer. We have some new items, Jogger Sweatpants and Jogger Flannel pants! The kids have been asking us for them, so we have added them to our Spirit Wear collection.   All orders are due back to school by October 13. Orders will be delivered to the students in early December. Order forms can also be found on our website at  www.mtmspto.org

 

MTMS PTO Fall Clothing Drive: Save the Date! Saturday,  October 14 from 9am - 12pm at the MTMS parking Lot!  Please check our website for a listing of items that can be donated!

 

MTMS PTO Adult Wine Glass Paint Night: Mark your calendar and save the date for our Adult Wine Glass Paint Night on Friday, November 17 from 7pm-9pm at Forsgate Country Club. We will be painting seasonal wine glasses. Please check our website at www.mtmspto.org for more information to reserve your tickets!

 

Our fundraising efforts bring so many great events/activities for our students and staff.  In addition to all that we fund each year (dances, bingos, etc.) for our students and staff, one of our fundraising initiatives is to purchase and enhance the MTMS Gymnasium Speaker System. The speaker system is used for 8 ^th Grade Graduation, future pep rallies, Volleyball Madness, Athletic Breakfast and any other school events that take place in the gym.

^th Grade Teachers at Applegarth Elementary School

At Applegarth Elementary School, we don't ask "how smart are you?" but "HOW ARE YOU SMART?"  During the first few weeks of school, 5 ^th grade teachers led their students through a tutorial of Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences whereby students were able to discover their optimal strengths of learning and performing.  To introduce the activity, students read and sorted scenario cards about the eight multiple intelligences (People, Body, Music, Picture, Word, Logic, Self, and Nature Smart).  Students then answered a questionnaire about their schoolwork and hobby preferences.  With teacher guidance, students took this data and plotted the information onto a mind map. The final piece of this activity was for each student to create a visual model of his/her brain with color pipe cleaners (each color representing a different type of "Smart").

This fun and engaging lesson opens students' eyes to the many ways they can excel.  In addition, teachers use this data to tailor instruction and activities to meet the needs of all learners.

As the people of Texas attempt to recover and move forward from the devastation of Hurricane Harvey, Oak Tree School wanted to do something, even if it was offering a few words of inspiration.  Third grade teacher Nancy Hanlon reached out to Sue Creech Elementary School in Katy, Texas.  While they no longer needed school supplies, as they had been relocated, they would never tire of words and pictures for encouragement and hope.  So Oak Tree classes joined together to create "Hearts for Texas". 

Mrs. Hanlon and Ms. Kohlhepp spearheaded this campaign in which heartfelt words of support are being shipped off to the Lone Star State.

 

But Oak Tree's efforts did not stop there.  With the retirement of veteran first grade teacher  Mrs. Dianne Ostroski, there were many books and school supplies that had not found a home when she emptied her classroom.  Third Grade teacher Kim Synarski knew of a Houston native who was driving south to deliver much needed items to her hometown.  So boxes were packed and cars were loaded by Ms. Synarski and Grade 2 teacher Mrs. Christina Sceusa and valuable school supplies were delivered to the Herrera Elementary School in Texas. 

 

There is no doubt that Oak Tree continues to have a big heart for helping others.
