Older women contribute enormously to our communities, through paid and unpaid work, caregiving, volunteering and much more. However, many older women also experience barriers to their well-being that impact on their ability to participate in community initiatives. This webinar highlights a guide that provides strategies, tips and examples to engage older women in meaningful volunteering as a method to combat systemic inequalities against older women and support the leadership potential of older women.

An article in the Fall 2017 Apple Magazine outlines programs and services available through Alberta Health Services such as home care, supportive living, rehabilitation care, and financial assistance programs for oral, hearing and vision care.

This documentary short about LGBTQ seniors is being screened at the Edmonton International Film Festival. With humor, frankness, wit and charm, twelve seniors respond to ten questions about aging and share stories about how they made history. One of the subjects is Edmontonian Carol Allan who changed the course of LGBT rights for the Edmonton Public School Board. Another is Bill Richardson, Canadian author and humourist and former CBC Radio host. The director and guests will be present at the screening.

The film has screened in St Louis, Zurich, Toronto, Durham, Vancouver, New York, Hong Kong, and Thunder Bay. Upcoming screenings include Ottawa and Buenos Aires. View the trailer and learn more about the film. Tickets can be purchased online.

As part of National Seniors' Day, the Department of Medicine has organized this seminar. The topics of the three presentations are Bladder Problems in Later Life, Physical Activity for Healthy Aging, and Falls Prevention: Call for Engagement and Action. During the Ask an Expert session Dr. Adrian Wagg, Dr. Angela Juby and Dr. Kathy Lechelt will answer questions.

ElderCare Edmonton is a non-profit organization providing day programs developed to strengthen seniors' independence and quality of life. We are looking to add a board member to our Board of Directors. Board members contribute to effective governance of Eldercare. Specifically, providing leadership in:

• Monitoring the performance of the organization in relation to its mission, vision and values
• Oversight and approval of strategic plan
• Approval of annual budget
• Ensuring efficient and effective use of resources
• Monitoring Administrator performance and providing feedback
• Knowledgeable about key risks and ensuring appropriate controls are in place

This is a volunteer role with no remuneration. While prior board governance and not for profit experiences are assets, we seek individuals are who are passionate and committed to quality of life and care of older adults with needs in our community.
