Strive to be more
Dear Parents,

We send a heartfelt "THANK YOU!" to our Rector, Fr. Rippy, for hosting the STM parish community at Saturday's Parish Picnic - Oktoberfest.  The weather was perfect, the food delicious, and the opportunity to visit with friends was priceless.  The new lighting in the parking lot also contributed greatly to the evening festivities.
I also extend my thanks to the many volunteers who helped to prepare, set up, and dismantle this event.  An occasion like this requires many hands and I greatly appreciate all that you do to help make these moments so successful.

God  Bless,

Eleanor McCormack

Pizza and Market Table volunteers are needed in the school cafeteria from  10:45am-1:15pm.   Those planning to volunteer their time must be  VIRTUS-compliant  as required by the Diocese.
Parents can also volunteer by sending in small food items or school supplies to sell at the Market Table.   Monies spent on these items may be counted towards volunteer time.  Appropriate food items for Market Table include granola bars, individual packages of pretzels, fruit snacks, nut-free trail mix and popcorn.
Please do not send in cookies, chips, nuts or any items containing nuts. Do not send in latex items such as balloons or any item made with latex.  Students do enjoy non-food items such as erasers, novelty pens and pencils, stickers, mini-notepads and other school supplies. Thank you for your generous support of our school!
STM STUDENT COUNCIL
DRESS DOWN FOR CATHOLIC CHARITIES

Are you ready to show your tropical side?  The STM Student Council is sponsoring a Dress Down Day on Wednesday, October 11, 2017, and the theme for the day is "Island/Tropical!"  So bring out your Hawaiian shirts and dresses!  Don your favorite bright colored floral clothing!  Wear your lei!  Let your outfit be sunshine!

To participate, we ask that each student bring a $1 donation to support Catholic Charities and their mission throughout the world.  The money will be collected on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 in all the homerooms.

Please do remember: though we want the students to have fun with what they wear that day. They must follow the guidelines outlined in the handbook, so please no open-toed shoes, flip-flops, sandals, or anything heeled.  The students have recess everyday and it is important that the footwear suit the activity they engage in at STM.

STM SEAPERCH

"SeaPerch" is a STEM based curriculum project developed by MIT in which students build underwater rovers from a basic kit of everyday materials. The program introduces students to the basics of engineering and physics as they learn how to use tools to create an underwater robot, then modify their design, test and troubleshoot electrical connections, and finally remotely navigate their vehicle through a series of underwater challenges!  Students participating in the STM SeaPerch Sub Club will generally have the opportunity to enter their robots in as many as two competitive regional events to see how their underwater rovers measure up under pressure against other competitive designs.

The first STM Sea Perch meeting and build/revisions will be Saturday, October 7 from 9-11 a.m. in the STM cafeteria.  Formal registration will take place at that time for new and returning members. The second meeting will be the following Saturday, October 14, from 9-11 a.m. in the STM cafeteria.
Parent attendance is an absolute requirement for this project.
All parents must complete certain paperwork and attend Virtus training  BEFORE the first build session in order for their child to participate. All parents must attend all the build sessions and all competitions with their child.
INCIDENTAL FEES

Parents--Please take a few minutes to log on to your FACTS account and review and pay your incidental fees.
Auto-payments do not roll over from year to year so you may need to reactivate your incidentals account for auto-pay.  Families with an outstanding incidental account will not receive their child's report card.  If you have any questions, please contact Tara Ashworth via email at [email protected].
HOMEWORK HOUR
Mrs. Busekrus, fifth grade teacher, monitors an after-school homework assistance program for students in grades 4 through 8.  Daily sessions are designed to provide your student with an opportunity to ask questions, seek clarification, and receive teacher guidance on homework.  These meetings are not intended to be tutoring sessions.  If a parent would like a one-on-one tutoring session, they may separately arrange those with other STM teachers.

Hour-long homework assistance sessions are offered Mondays through Thursdays in Room 13 from 3:20 to 4:20pm.  The cost
for this service is $15.00 per daily session per student and will be charged to your FACTS account.  Students need to be picked up from Room 13 by 4:20pm or they will be checked into the
Extended Day program.

Please complete the attached form and return to the school office.  Confirmation of registration will be sent via email.
RACE FOR EDUCATION
STM's Race for Education 2017
