DOWNTOWN CHARLEVOIX IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS 
The detour, due to construction work being done on Antrim and Hurlbut, does not
prohibit you from driving to your favorite downtown Charlevoix establishment.
Mason Street, Clinton Avenue and Park Avenue are all open with access to downtown. Parking downtown is available as usual.
You can also get down Antrim Street to the Oleson's Plaza, Cinema III and Terry's Place.
So, don't forget our Downtown Businesses during this 2 week road construction period.

ST MARY ADOPTS FAMILIES OF HURRICANE HARVEY
St. Mary Parish and School has adopted 7 families from St. Joseph Regional School in Baytown Texas, who lost everything in Hurricane Harvey. From
September 23- October 1, 9:00am-6:00pm, we will be accepting donations of specific items to be placed on a semi-truck, located on the corner of St. Mary's Drive and State Street. The semi-truck has been donated by Northern Logistics.
These families need everything: couches, tables, dressers, beds, kitchen supplies, and more. Stop by to check the list or call 231.547.6652 ext 20 for more information.

COSTCO IS SIGNING UP NEW MEMBERS IN CHARLEVOIX
Costco will be opening in Traverse City on Thursday, October 26 at 8:00am.
In the mean time, you can sign up for your Costco Card now!
Costco has a booth/tent set up next to Boss Landscape on US 31 South. They will be at this location 10am-5pm 7 days a week until October 24.
Costco will have a second location where you can sign up for your Costco Card starting approximately the first week in October. This location will be in the lot across from Dairy Grille. They will have the same schedule as the US 31 location.

CHARLES CULVER EXHIBITION AT THE CIRCLE OF ARTS
Working with the Charles Culver curator, Andrea Gerring, the Charlvevoix Circle of Arts presents
A Charles Culver Retrospective
opening on September 29 from 5-7pm and
running through November 4th. Bellaire artist Charles Beech Culver was born in 1908 and his life ended in 1967. He loved jazz music, and for a short time in the late 20's and early 30's went on the road as a musician to earn extra money, playing tenor sax and clarinet. In addition to music, Culver had worked as a cartoonist for the Royal Oak Tribune in the 1920's. Culver's love of music, his work on children's books and cartoons were only hobbies, and to make money he worked several years at the Chevrolet Studios in General Motors Building in Detroit as a commercial artist.

34TH CHARLEVOIX COUNTY CROP WALK TO BE HELD SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 30 AT 9:00AM
Come rain or shine, area residents are gearing up to join in the Charlevoix County CROP Walk, Saturday, September 30 at 9:00am. This year's walk will be a 5k and will begin at three Charlevoix County locations, including Elm Pointe to the Tourist Park in East Jordan, United Methodist Church in Boyne City and St. Mary's Church in Charlevoix. All churches and individuals are welcome to join the walk.
Organized locally, the Charlevoix County CROP Walk has set a goal of recruiting 100 walkers to raise $25,000 which will work to combat hunger here in our community as well as around the world. More

NORTH CENTRAL PRESENTS FREE LECTURE ON SUSTAINABILITY IN THE PERUVIAN AMAZON
North Central Michigan College's International committee will present an illuminating lecture about a great sustainability program in the Peruvian Amazon on Thursday, October 5 at 6:30pm in Room 311 of the Health Education and Science Center on the Petoskey campus. This lecture is free and open to the public. No reservations are necessary.
VASI, translated Amazonian Vision for an Integrated Sustainability, works with nine communities in the Peruvian Amazon to combat the growing pressures from industries, violence and illegal activities threatening biodiversity of the region and the livelihoods of its residents. More

HARVEST MOON DANCE CONCERT
Join us on Thursday, October 5, from 6:30-9:30 pm at Shanahan's Barn for a Harvest Moon Dance Concert to benefit Joppa House Women's Transitional Home.
The Dance Concert will feature the Motown Magic of "Intrigue", a Rhythms of Venetian Headline Act.
Cost is $75 per person and includes Farm to Table Hors D'oeuvres and a Full Cash Bar.

CHARLEVOIX AREA COMMUNITY POOL ANNUAL MEETING
The Charlevoix Area Community Pool will hold its Annual Meeting on Thursday, October 5, 2017, starting at 5pm at the First Congregational Church, 101 State Street.
We will be providing an update on our Pool Renewal.

ARE YOUR KNEES READY TO SKI?
Northern Michigan Sports Medicine Center is hosting a "Wellness Seminar" free to the community on "Are Your Knees Ready to Ski!" on Thursday, October 5th at 5:30pm with light refreshments.
The presentation will be held at the Harbor Springs Clinic located in the Harbor Plaza, next to the Harbor Springs Airport. Our professional staff will be available for one-on-one consultations after the presentation.

Knee injuries are currently the most common injury, with the dreaded ACL and MCL tear often being the victim. The seminar will focus on preventing knee injuries and the importance of pre-season sports specific conditioning.

CAMP DAGGETT FALL FESTIVAL IS COMING!
The Fall Festival is back at beautiful Camp Daggett on Walloon Lake,
Sunday, October 8 from noon to 5:00pm. Fall is the perfect time to visit Camp Daggett. The fall colors surrounding Walloon Lake are beautiful, and families can enjoy outdoor activities then return to the main lodge to warm up by the fireplace. Open to the public, this event offers new visitors a chance to see the Camp in its fall glory, and former campers a chance to share their stories.

The Baby Boomer Comedy Show is 90 minutes of hilarious clean stand-up comedy focusing on work, family, do-it-yourself projects, and many other topics that audiences can relate to!
Kent and Jan are both baby boomers who have spent the past 20 years performing. They have a reputation for clean and funny humor.
Proceeds from this event will benefit the local programs in Charlevoix and Emmett Counties that your United Way Funds each year.

BIGS' FASHIONABLE FUNDRAISER AT TALBOTS
Big Brothers Big Sisters and Talbots of Traverse City invite the community to join them on
Thursday, October 19th for a day of shopping - all for a great cause!
Stop in to shop at Tablots any time between 10am and 8pm on October 19, mention Bigs during checkout and 10% of your pre-tax will be donated directly to Big Brothers Big sisters to support mentoring relationships between local at-risk children and caring, adult mentors.
Bigs Executive Director, Cecilia Chesney, and Office Manager, Kris Hoxie, will be in attendance from 5:00-8:00pm if you would like to visit, learn more about the local Bigs program and enjoy light refreshments.
