Student Ministry
by Greg Burney

Student ministry at Hays Hills is going well! We are in the midst of one of our busiest seasons. We are offering Jr. and Sr. high bible studies throughout the month as well as gearing up for Run For the Hills and our annual Spaghetti Dinner!

Spaghetti Dinner is going to have an exciting new feel to it this year! We are bringing in some live improv comedy for entertainment during our dinner, as well as doing a few other small things to give all who attend the best experience possible! We would really appreciate it if you come out to support HHSM on November 5th. Doors open at 5:30! We also need people to donate items to our silent auction. If you are able to help please email me at [email protected].
If you have a student in HHSM the sign up for volunteering for Run for the Hills and Spaghetti Dinner are now open! Visit hayshills.com/studentevents to sign up to day!
Important upcoming dates for students:
October 17th and 24th - Jr. High Bible study!
October 15th - High School Bible study begins! (5 weeks)

We are only 2 1/2 weeks away from our Fall Family Festival! This event is guaranteed to be a lot of fun with bounce house, big slide, petting zoo, pony rides, games and trunk or treat! Thank you so much to the families that have already committed to doing trunks and games from these classes: Ekkesia, Alpha & Omega and Faith & Action.

We need a few more games prepared and member involvement to make this community outreach a success! I'll be visiting the Bible Life classes  on Sunday to answer questions and assign games. I'll also be available in the foyer between services for individual sign ups. I've made it easy--you commit to prepare a game, and I'll give you a card with pictures and supply list.

If you cannot attend, you can still help by prepping a game or donating candy or prizes. Let me know if you can help in this way - [email protected]

Discipleship and Education
by David Sweet

Come hear Pastor Aaron talk about how to share the gospel, this Saturday morning at 9 AM over breakfast. We will be out by 10:30 AM. We need RSVP's for food and for child care by this Friday at noon: [email protected] Older kids are welcome to sit in in the session with Pastor Aaron.

We are trying an experiment. We are offering a four-week Bible Life class on marriage, to try to introduce folks in our community to our church and to our Bible Life ministry. It will be a class called "The Crazy Cycle in Marriage" and is a video-based class based on the best-selling book by Christian counselor Dr. Emerson Eggerichs. This class is not really aimed at our members at this time. (There will be other opportunities) However, if it takes you and your spouse attending to get a guest couple to attend-then wonderful! We are advertising this on social media and at our "Run for the Hills"/Fall Family Festival on October 28. The class will start Sunday morning October 29 at 9:30 AM in Bldg. E. Spread the word!
The next Drive Through Prayer will be October 21, 10-11:30 AM! We need friendly faces and waves!

Here's a question for you: We are saved by grace, but do we live the Christian life by our own efforts? Hopefully you said "No!" We are saved by grace and we are to grow by grace! We are in the powerful sphere and hold of grace in the Person of Jesus Christ.

But how does this work? How do you experience growth by the grace of God? Would this perhaps eliminate some of the frustration and cycles of condemnation Christians say they experience?

There will be a major opportunity to understand the real source of power for spiritual growth, on Saturday, January 27 for just two hours starting at 9 AM. Bill Loveless will come and speak on his book "Living Life from a New Source."
CLC News
by Mitzi Hudgins

We thank God for the cooler temperatures that we have been enjoying!  The Christian Learning Center recently purchased two new pieces of equipment for the playground.  We were blessed to have the assistance of the following gentlemen with the Carpenter's Helpers:  Gerald Shirey, Mike Rubsam, Blaine Fehrenbacher, Duane Pfluger, Chris Turner, and Terry Parker.  The children love the pieces- see photo below!

This week I would like to feature the youngest of our 11 classes at CLC, the Fishes!  These children were aged 5 months-13 months we we started school.  These ladies are lovingly referred to as the "Julie's" (Julie Larsen and Julie Vannatter), and this is their 18th year to teach together!  The babies enjoy playing in their classroom, going on walks in their six-seater stroller, attending chapel with our Pre-K children, and exploring the playground.  Today in chapel our lesson was on thoughtfulness and how Jesus wants us to be thoughtful and considerate of others, and that we cannot always do whatever we want.  Our Bible verse was "Whatever you do for one of these you did for me."  May you be blessed this week!
From Pastor Aaron

On Sunday, at 6pm, we'll have a brief members' meeting and budget hearing upstairs in the Jr. High room in Bldg. D. On our agenda:
  • Authorizing church staff to enter into an agreement with Kids Outdoor Zone, a kids outdoor ministry that provides kids with mentors and direction to become godly adults. The ministry would use our property on Saturday mornings for outdoor activities with the boys in the program and on Tuesday nights for a men's bible study. You can learn more about the ministry on their website: www.kidsoutdoorzone.com
  • Approving the Selection Team responsible for nominating members of the Administration Committee and Budget/Finance Committee for 2018.
  • First look at the initial draft of the 2018 budget with opportunity for questions and discussion.
Prayer Updates

Justin and Johanna Cathey (IMB Missionaries to Istanbul, Turkey) have returned to the field and were greeted by a woman who has chosen to follow Christ as her Savior! Praise the Lord for salvation and ask for her to be rooted and grounded in the faith. Pray for Johanna has she works to disciple this young believer. Pray also for Justin as he develops a series of seminars on the 500th anniversary of the Reformation.

Mike Sutton, recovering from heart procedure.

Mary Meador-Martinez, recovering at home from injuries sustained in auto accident.

Judy Shirey, recovering at home after procedure to remove kidney.

Christian sympathy extended to Terry and Holly Taylor in the death of Terry's mother. Memorial services will be held at Hays Hills on October 28th.
