Wilcox Bridge: Temporary Closure on Sept 5

As part of the construction of the new Arboretum Loop Trail, the Wilcox Bridge will be closed to foot traffic on Tuesday morning (6 a.m. to noon). The contractor will be paving the trail by the east end of the bridge. The closest pedestrian access to the Arboretum will be at the Birch Parking Lot near the Japanese Garden.

Small Gardens With Big Impact!

Arboretum Foundation Unit 69 is hosting a talk in Edmonds, WA, on September 16, by noted author Lorene Edwards Forkner. Learn about design ideas that will help you make the most of your urban garden space. Tickets are $10 each, and ticket proceeds will support the Arboretum.

Japanese Garden: Free First Thursday

Entry to the Seattle Japanese Garden will be free after 3 p.m. on Thursday, September 7. This month's "Free First Thursday" event features a spectacular, fall-themed nature photography exhibit curated by Ray Pfortner. 

Meet Seattle's Beavers

Nearly eradicated in the early 20th century, beavers have made a comeback in the wetlands of Seattle. UWBG is hosting a free talk on beaver ecology on October 2. It includes a tour of active beaver sites in Yesler Swamp.

Managing Soil Health

If you want to grow healthy plants, you need to start with healthy soil. On September 7, UW Botanic Gardens is hosting a day-long soils seminar at the Center for Urban Horticulture (CUH). Learn about soil texture, chemistry, and biology, and best practices for long-term soil health. Cost: $85.
