Thoughts From Pastor Glen

The 10th Anniversary of our building celebration has finally arrived! It will be this Sunday at 11:30 a.m. Remember there will be no 8:45 a.m. service on October 1st, just the 10:15 a.m. service with the celebration following immediately after. Don't be surprised when you walk into the sanctuary. We will worship with round tables in preparation for the lunch. This should be a fun day as we share the history of Spirit of Hope Lutheran Church including the days prior to our building. There will be picture boards, PowerPoint presentations, a casual lunch and an opportunity to share memories. God has done a lot of amazing things over the past 18 years and it's my hope that you will all take time to be a part of it.

Hats off to Rich & Sharlah Reynolds who orchestrated the blood-drive last Sunday.  It appeared to me that the Bloodmobile was hopping all day. I have always found the workers in the Bloodmobile to be positive and friendly. My blood type is O- which means that they can do a "Power Red" on me. I'm not totally sure what that means, but the smile on the worker's faces told a story of gratitude. Thank you all for sharing in this special way.

Did you take home a SHOEBOX? I grabbed a couple of boxes last Sunday for a 6 year old boy. Member Donna Blad did an excellent job explaining this special ministry to assist local police officers in providing these shoeboxes for struggling children in our school district. I see this as a great teaching moment. I will be taking my three year old granddaughter shopping with me and will explain to her that God wants us to provide these special gifts for little kids who have not been as blessed as she has been. I want to thank Donna for quarterbacking this powerful ministry and wonderful teaching tool.

I also want to thank the many people who have come up to me asking about my spouse (Lee) and her fight with cancer. I've not written about it lately at her request. It's been a strange summer for our family with Lee breaking her ankle at the end of May. Then having surgery a few weeks later on the ankle. Upon visiting the doctor regarding her ankle she mentioned a slight discomfort coming from her bladder. Further tests and yet another surgery revealed 20+ cancerous tumors in her bladder. She has completed her six week regiment of immunotherapy, which couldn't have gone better. She has little to no pain and will do a follow-up visit with her surgeon at the end of October. Right now things look great! Your prayers and concerns have been heart-warming and has revealed the very best of being part of the body of Christ. Thank you!

It seems a little surreal to be closing-in on the last 8 weeks of sharing ministry with you all. My love overflows when I think of you and all that we have been through. I have baptized your babies. I have assisted you in saying good-bye to your loved ones. I have prayed with you as I sat beside your hospital bed. I've heard your laughter and dried your tears. I have shared God's word with you (perhaps more words than you would have liked.) You have allowed me the freedom to hug and hold you as if I were a member of your family. I can't imagine feeling more blessed than I have these last 18 years. Please know that God has allowed me to work with an amazing staff and church leaders. These are great people. Trust them. I am sadden that since announcing my retirement, some of you have stayed away. Worship attendance and offerings have suffered causing stress on the system. My prayer for these finals months together is that this relationship/this segment of ministry end strong, giving the future an opportunity to launch itself into a new chapter, a new horizon of Making Christ Known!

Peace & love,
Pastor Glen
