   Write It! Send It!
While serving as a District Superintendent (1998-2007) in the Florida Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church, I learned how to be a better encourager. The resident Episcopal Leader was the late Bishop Cornelius L. Henderson. He challenged, encouraged and inspired his cabinet to write five notes or make five phone calls a day to express words of encouragement to others. This pattern has blessed me tremendously in my spiritual growth. How? I'm glad you asked. By encouraging others, it has actually encouraged me as well.

In Revelation 1:9-12 it says, "I, John, with you all the way in the trial and the Kingdom and the passion of patience in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos because of God's Word, the witness of Jesus. It was Sunday and I was in the Spirit, praying. I heard a loud voice behind me, trumpet-clear and piercing: " Write what you see into a book. Send it to the seven churches: to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, Laodicea." I turned and saw the voice that spoke to me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candles." Message Bible

John the revelator is writing to the seven churches in Asia, our modern day Turkey, while on the island called Patmos around 95 A.D. He is challenging, encouraging and inspiring the believers to be Faithful and True.

By the way, you are invited to join tonight's Bible Study class in the Music Suite at 6:30 p.m. The lesson is on John's letter to the seven churches in Revelation, Chapter 2. Let's write or call five people today with an encouraging word. Remember, "Today is the best day of our lives and tomorrow will be even better."

Be Encouraged,
Dr. Kevin M. James, Sr.
