With all the new releases this season -- and there are a lot of them -- I usually rhapsodize over the adult books (oh, look, a new Ron Chernow, Jennifer Egan, Elin Hilderbrand, and Dan Brown!), but in this newsletter, I would like to point out the amazing number of exciting kids and young adult books which have recently arrived. Anthony Horowitz brings back his teenage spy, Alex Rider in a brand new thriller, John Green's new book Turtles All The Way Down debuts (and our copies are autographed!), and Kate Milford unveils a new Greenglass House novel. One store favorite is the new Sweet Pea And Friends picture book, A Farm For Maisie. Don't forget to check out the very creepy Haunting The Deep as well as the third Harry Potter novel in deluxe illustrated form. We also feature Rick Riordan's new Magnus Chase book and the next Spy School novel. Scroll down for a bit, and peek at the New Books For Kids section. There is something for everyone!

Unexpected twists abound, and the relationships ring completely true in every way. It's a remarkable achievement!

California Dreamin'
by Penelope Bagieu
This is a graphic novel/biography (I still can't get used to calling nonfiction books "graphic novels") of Ellen Cohen, a (mostly) nice Jewish girl from Baltimore whose family owned a deli and who didn't want to work in a deli but instead transformed herself into one of the most distinctive vocalists in pop music history -- Cass Elliot. She was quite a character, and Penelope Bagieu's portrayal of Ellen/Cass is poignant, generous, inspiring, happy-sad, and altogether delightful.

Every Saturday, from noon to 3:00 PM, Melinda, our used books guru, takes trade-ins of used paperbacks for store credit in our Used Book Cellar. There is a limit of two bags or one box -- about fifty books -- but this is a perfect time to make room on your bookshelves for the new books arriving this fall! Currently, she is receiving more kids books than she can handle, but she is in need of adult paperbacks, especially non-fiction. If you have gently-read memoirs, biographies, history, or reference books, Melinda would love to give you a credit that you can use to buy new books.

Rescue Dogs
When author Peter Zheutlin premiered his new book, Rescued, at our event last week, we had several rescue organizations bring in adoptable dogs. From left to right, we have Gracie, Jackie, and Charlie -- all of whom were very well-behaved and sweet dogs. They were quite excited to meet so many new people. We hope they all find families soon.
