    October 10, 2017                   HOPE & JOY!
Christian Leaders              Academic Achievers           Responsible Citizens
Dear St. John the Baptist Families,

At Sunday's liturgy, the song chosen to close the liturgy was "Bless the Lord/Every Move I Make."  The refrain expresses "Bless the Lord, O my soul, bless God's holy name." Everyday at St. John the Baptist School it is evident that all stakeholders share in this message. Students working and helping each other out do so with understanding of our SLE's - Student Learning Expectations - or who we are in terms of our core values - Christian Leaders, Academic Achievers and Responsible Citizens.  This past Friday, we honored those students who are exemplary Christian Leaders in our community - please join me in congratulating them in "blessing God's holy name" with their actions in our community by helping their peers and staff with open hearts!  Ask your child/ren about his/her day when you pick him/her up from school.  Hopefully he/she can share with you about a way they work to bless his holy name during the day where he/she felt they were led in a Christian way by a friend or teacher; or perhaps how he/she made the choice to do the leading?  Have a fantastic week rooted in community blessings.

Prayers are requested for those who are affected by the Napa/Sonoma fires, for the first responders who work to aid when there are emergencies, the sick, those without work, those who are hungry and homeless, those suffering the loss of a loved one and for peace in the world.

Blessings for a Wonderful Week!
Congratulations to our Christian Leaders!
Please join the St. John the Baptist school community in congratulating the following student for being honored as Christian Leaders at our liturgy this past Friday 10/6.  Way to go!

Box Tops for Education - Get Clipping!
This year, our school will be participating in the Box Tops for Education program. To help our school, just simply look for those pink box tops labels, cut them out and turn them in to the school. It's that easy! Collection boxes will be set up by the front office, and another by the back entrance.
Box Tops are each worth 10¢ and are found on hundreds of products. When students, families, schools and communities work together to collect Box Tops, the money adds up fast. Last year, our school collected 286 box tops; that's a total of  $28.60! We can earn even more cash this school year with your help.
To learn more about the Box Tops for Education™ program and see a list of participating products, visit BTFE.com. Thank you in advance for your support! Happy Clippings!

Diocesan Policy Regarding Dogs on Campus
We have recently been informed from the Diocese of Oakland with regard to the following pertaining to NOT ALLOWING DOGS on campus*:

It is becoming increasingly more popular for volunteers and parents to bring dogs to diocesan schools and churches. Animals/dogs by their nature are unpredictable. Even the most calm, well trained dog can become agitated and aggressive when in an unfamiliar environment with large numbers of people like at a church or school. Some children may be inexperienced at dealing with dogs and might approach and treat dogs aggressively provoking a dog to respond in kind.

*The one exception to this is the annual Blessing of the Animals.

It should be noted:

The State of California has the following "Dog Bite Statute":
California is one of the states that has a dog bite statute, meaning a law that repudiates in whole or part the common law's requirement of "scienter" (i.e., knowledge that the animal had previously injured a person in the same manner, such as by a bite). California Civil Code section 3342 provides as follows:
3342. (a) The owner of any dog is liable for the damages suffered by any person who is bitten by the dog while in a public place or lawfully in a private place, including the property of the owner of the dog, regardless of the former viciousness of the dog or the owner's knowledge of such viciousness.
