Dr. Harvey Silver – Silver Strong & Associates
Harvey is the cofounder and president of Silver Strong & Associates and has more than forty years of experience as a teacher, administrator, and consultant. He is a regular speaker at national and regional educational conferences, addressing a wide range of topics, including differentiated instruction, thoughtful assessment, school leadership, and lesson/unit design. Harvey also conducts workshops for schools, districts, and educational organizations throughout North America. He is the co-author of several educational bestsellers, including Tools for a Successful School Year, Tools for Thoughtful Assessment, and The Core Six. He is also the lead developer of the Thoughtful Classroom Teacher Effectiveness Framework, a comprehensive teacher evaluation system that is being implemented in school districts across the country.
Cheryl Abla – McREL International
Cheryl assists California teachers, instructional coaches, and school leaders to increase student achievement through the use of research– and evidence-based instructional strategies. Most recently working with Simi Valley USD and presenting at the California TESOL conference, Cheryl is an expert on instructional strategies and coaching, use of technology for learning, positive school culture and climate, and supporting English language learners. Prior to joining McREL, Cheryl taught grades 1-12 for more than 20 years, and served as a national facilitator for a character education program. Her enthusiasm for learning, coupled with her extensive and diverse classroom experience, ensures that workshop participants walk away with practical ideas that can be immediately put to use in their schools.

Join educational leaders and authors Harvey Silver and Cheryl Abla as they present practical instructional tools from their upcoming book, Tools for Classroom Instruction That Works (available December 2017).
Aligned with McREL’s renowned Classroom Instruction That Works strategies and framework, this two-day academy will deliver an intensive learning, working, and planning session for classroom teachers, instructional coaches, teacher mentors, principals and assistant principals, and central office PD leaders.
This academy will help participants raise student achievement in the classroom or school by focusing on what matters most: crafting dynamic learning activities supported by the best research on effective instruction. Participants will gain valuable insights and practical tools and strategies for delivering engaging instruction that makes a difference in students’ learning.
