Program Management Leadership Academy – Symposium for Potential
Supervisors and managers of direct-line staff in Trust-funded programs are invited to participate in Symposium for Potential, the kick-off event for The Children’s Trust’s inaugural Program Management Leadership Academy (The Academy), which will take place in 2018. The Academy is a leadership development program designed to help supervisory leaders of Trust-funded organizations serving children, youth and families move to the next level of personal and professional growth. Participants will learn effective strategies to handle major leadership and organizational challenges, and be encouraged to interact, discover and communicate as they build their skills to become awesome leaders. Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT): 2-Day Training
The Mailman Center for Child Development Training will explore the evidence base of trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) and its practice components, including rationale, techniques and activities for implementation, as well as hands-on practice of these components through role-play and/or group activities.Trauma types and symptoms, assessment, and cultural and family engagement considerations will also be discussed. Disaster Food Relief
The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) is maintaining open Disaster SNAP (or Food for Florida) application sites, and is reminding Floridians seeking disaster food assistance of important details prior to their visiting a Food for Florida location. To be eligible, you must not currently be receiving benefits through the regular food assistance program; must have been living or working in the disaster area at the time of the disaster; and must have suffered a disaster-related loss, such as damage to your home or self-employment property, loss of food, reduction or loss of income, or have incurred other disaster-related expenses.

Financial Relief for People Left Unemployed After Irma
Federal disaster unemployment assistance is available to workers and the self-employed affected by Hurricane Irma. To qualify, your work must have been lost or interrupted by the storm resulting in your inability to work or perform services because of physical damage or destruction to your place of employment. Those approved for disaster unemployment will receive up to $275 a week, according to Florida’s Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO). The application deadline is October 14. Sandy Hook Promise: National Say Something Week - October 16-20
Say Something teaches students how to look for warning signs, signals and threats - especially in social media - from individuals who may want to hurt themselves or others, and to say something to a trusted adult to get them help. The upcoming Say Something Week raises awareness and educates students and the community through training, media events, advertising, public proclamations, contests and school awards on how to say something if they believe a friend or peer is thinking about hurting themselves or someone else. When it comes to violence, suicide and threats, most are known by at least one other individual before the incident takes place. Say Something Week reinforces the power young people have to prevent tragedies and say something to a trusted adult to protect a friend from hurting them self or others.
