It's always such a pleasure to have our charming customers share with us their delightful stories about shopping at
The Village Shoppes.

Although she's only lived in Berrien Springs, Michigan, for about five years, Kathy Ruebel (above, left) already considers The Village Shoppes her "go to" place when shopping for seasonal decor. Kathy has returned to our store many, many times with her list of decorative items she needs for her home and now her dear friend, Jackie Seib of Benton Harbor, Michigan, (above, right) is making her share of trips here, too! Jackie doesn't need a list...she knows she wants one of everything we have!

We think one of you ladies should invest in a van and bring a load of friends next time you visit us! (Like during our Christmas Open House, perhaps?!)

Bella's Tale

The word "contraction" means to squeeze, shrink, or make smaller so it seems logical that contractions in the English language are the shortening of two words by joining them together. Using an apostrophe in place of the omitted letters, most contractions make sense; i.e., do not = don't; they are = they're; I would = I'd. That being said, why is "won't" the contraction for "will not" instead of "willn't"?

As it turns out, there is a very complex answer to this question involving reducing negatives in the Old English language; however, simply put, "won't" is a contraction of "woll not", "woll" being a very old synonym for the word "will". After spending waaaaay too much time researching this subject, trust me, this easy-to-understand summary is all you need to know about the contraction "won't".
