Blessing the Children
The Angel Tree Ministry is a program, sponsored by the Prison Fellowship Ministries, which gives us the opportunity to lovingly answer the biblical call to minister "to the least of these" (Matthew 25:40). Angel Tree Christmas works by connecting parents in prison with their children through the giving of Christmas gifts. We, as individuals or families, purchase these gifts for the children in the name of their prisoner-parent. Each qualified parent in prison prepares a wish list of two gifts, one toy item and one clothing item, for each child and supplies the age, size, gender and a message to be written on the gift tag card for that child. The Prison Fellowship requests of those buying the gifts that each gift should be purchased new and valued between $20 and $25. This standard helps assure that children, especially multiple ones in the same family, all receive gifts of similar value. The Women on Mission at NHBC have led the church family in sharing through the Angel Tree Ministry for a number of years. The goal is to provide the opportunity for children in church families to participate in the process so they might have the experience of ministering to other children. Join us for Selection Sunday on October 22, 2017. Then return your boxed (but unwrapped) gifts on or before Return Sunday, November 5, 2017. A simple gift can change a life! Thank you for sharing God's love this Christmas season.

Trunk or Treat
Our annual Trunk or Treat will be held Tuesday, October 31 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. This is an EASY, fun way to make positive touches with our community families! You can decorate your car if you wish, but that is not necessary. If you can bring some candy to pass out, that will certainly be helpful; however, we will also supplement participants with candy for their cars as well. If
weather doesn't cooperate, we will simply move into the building to pass out candy. If you prefer, all you have to do is show up, open your trunk, pass out candy with a smile, and let God work through you. If you would like to participate, but would rather not do it on your own, grab a friend or more, and do it together....even more fun! Please let us know if you have any questions, or to let us know you'll be participating. Let's have LOTS of cars and smiles on our lot that evening!!! Last year we had over 500 community members pass through. Wow! You will be blessed as you bless others!

Deacon's Corner
If you look up the word "deacon" in the dictionary you will probably find the words "serve" or
"servant" in the definition. As deacons it is our privilege and honor to serve our Lord, our pastor, and members of National Heights.
One way we serve that you might not be aware of is serving the Lord's Supper to our homebound members. We usually do this around Christmas and Easter. Two deacons serve the bread and cup, pray, and read scripture to commemorate the death of Jesus and anticipate His second coming.
Many times a homebound member's family will also participate. If the member resides in a nursing facility, sometimes a roommate or friend will join us.
If you are a homebound member or a family member of a homebound member and would like for us to serve you in this way, contact your deacon or call the church office. It is our hope and prayer that you will be blessed as much as we are by participating in this most sacred remembrance of our Lord's sacrifice.

To The Work, Ladies!
Women on Mission will gather in fellowship hall on Tuesday morning, October 24 at 9:30 a.m. This work day is under the direction of Darlene Gideon and Doris Whitcher. Darlene leads the group in tacking quilts for Grand Oak Mission. Each year the group makes 12 to 15 regular size quilts. Mary McLemore leads some of the group in making children's quilts and usually 50 to 60 of these smaller quilts are made each year. They also go to Grand Oak Mission for distribution to families in need. Doris leads the group in assembling salvation bracelets which are used by Greene County Baptist Mission teams each summer, usually in Mexico or another Central American country. This past summer our church made and sent almost 4,500 bracelets thanks to the youth and others for some great help. A coffee/snacks/share time will be hosted by Mary McLemore and Doris Whitcher at about 10:15. We will be happy to teach anyone who need help learning to tack quilts or to assemble the bracelets. It is fun working together. All women of the church are invited to come and join the work and the fellowship!
