Held at San José's Capital Club, the panel included John Machado, a broker with Colliers International, Cynthia Czech, SFP at Pacific Retail Partners  (owners of Eastridge Mall), and Ashton Simmons, general manager of The Veranda, currently under construction in Concord.

Four trends in brick-and-mortar shoppers were identified - the hunter, the experiencer, the fitness connoisseur and the let's-make-a day-of-it type. Read about the future of retail in our latest blog post.

/ FORMER LAM CAMPUS RE-IMAGINED

#NSJ

Redevelopment construction to transform the 27-acre former LAM Research campus on North First Street in San José has begun, it was announced by ProspectHill Group and SKS. The partnership has branded the new North San José campus Assembly at North First, and is redeveloping it in two phases.

The first phase entails the complete renovation of four buildings, two of which will be combined into a single 100,000-square-foot building. Interiors and exteriors will be extensively modernized and most importantly, the repositioned property will function as a cohesive office campus environment featuring an acre of landscaped outdoor amenity space and a definitive "main street" at the campus entrance. Elements of luxury residential and resort properties will be integrated into a commercial setting to create a pleasant ambiance throughout the campus.

The 27-acre property will also include an onsite fitness center, upgraded locker rooms with showers and storage, and a one-acre outdoor park with multiple seating and gathering areas, intimate spaces for contemplation, an outdoor fire pit and a pizza oven.

When the first phase is completed, there will be approximately 300,000 square feet in three buildings where collaboration and teamwork are fostered by open and airy interiors in the physical environment of an intimate campus setting. Occupancy will be available in late summer of 2018.

 2017 THE BEST YET!

#WhySJ

Easily surpassing last year's attendance of 100,000 participants, VivaCalle 2017 stretched for 7.3 miles across San José, from Japantown in the north, along Santa Clara Street/Alum Rock Avenue from City Hall to White Road, and then down to Lake Cunningham Park in South San José.

Along the way, entertainment, church services, food, and even dancing horses enlivened the streets that were closed to motorized vehicles. Strollers, bikes of every variety, skateboards, scooters and feet ruled the road.

In its third year, VivaCalle got a boost from Niantec, the company behind the Pokemon GO phenomenon, with critters secreted all along the route and in hubs - collecting critters resulted in on-the-spot prize winning. Viva Calle is part of an international "open streets"
