Free hoodies, socks, underwear to children in need from
Assistance League ®  Volunteers support
Blast Off 2 School program for local children
Assistance League  of Southeastern Michigan, in collaboration with Rochester Area Neighborhood House, sponsored Blast Off 2 School, August 14-16, which provided essential supplies for Rochester-area children in need.

Assistance League provided each child with a new hoodie or fleece top, socks, underwear, a book, and a hygiene kit full of toiletries that included a toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, deodorant, comb and washcloth.  Neighborhood House provided backpacks and school supplies.

Assistance League President Rosemary Dirksen welcomed parents while Carol Murphy, Ann Drake, and Joanne Wisniewski, Operation School Bell® chairs, escorted the children into their free "shopping area" filled with racks of clothes and tables of necessities and grade-level books. Shopping with an Assistance League volunteer, each of the 465 students, ages 4-18, excitedly filled their totes with items for the new school year.

"It is rewarding to be able to sponsor an event in collaboration with Neighborhood House to serve children in our hometown. We are helping children to get a good start to their school year," said Carol Murphy.
