Principal Notes

Dear Parents,

Next week is the Week of Kindness.  Our very own alumna Katrina Manaloto will be returning to St. Philips on Monday to talk to our students about the week and why she continues to support it several years after she graduated.  Katrina is a member of the Pasadena Youth Council.   Student council has planned a week of activities centered around reminding all of us to treat each other and all people with kindness.  Any day is a good day for a little kindness so hopefully next week will be wonderful for all of us.

Have a fabulous week.  Please pray for peace.
Jennifer

Emergency Procedures

Saint Philip the Apostle School each year implements a fire, earthquake, and lock-down safety awareness and evacuation program that is designed to insure the safety of each child and adult upon the school premises. Our students are drilled in a well-established program of fire, earthquake and lockdown safety. Please review with your child occasionally the procedures of these drills.
Saint Philip has on hand emergency food and water plus a solar blanket for each child. The parents have purchased these supplies. Supplies have a four-year shelf life. New families to Saint Philip School and those who have students entering the fourth grade are charged with an earthquake/emergency fee. This fee goes toward the purchase of supplies.
Should a serious earthquake or emergency occur, all students will be retained at school until dismissed to the care of an adult who has been designated by the parent/guardian to pick up the child(ren).
In case of an emergency, adults will be allowed to enter only from Holliston at the gate near Holy Angel Hall. Identify yourself to the adult in charge at the entrance, who will direct you to your child(ren). No vehicles will be allowed on the school grounds.
  • No child will be allowed to go home alone.
  • Students will only be dismissed to the adults listed on the Emergency-Earthquake-Disaster Card.
  • Please list only adults with a reasonable chance of getting to the school in an earthquake emergency.
Only those names that are listed on the Emergency Card may sign out a child. Parents may add as many names to their card as they wish. Neighbors or other school parents who live near school are good choices.
In an emergency that necessitates the full removal of students from the school facility (or students remain on grounds for a longer period in a less severe disaster), then EVACUATION TO ANOTHER SITE AWAY FROM SCHOOL GROUNDS MAY BE NECESSARY. Please be assured that we would attempt to take every precaution to insure the wellbeing of your child(ren) in this event. Our staff would attempt, in such an emergency, to take all students to the nearest officially designated shelter area. Tune to your local radio station to learn of the closest shelter area provided.

REMINDERS
NAME PLACARDS
Please place the yellow name placards in your front windshield when coming through the pick up line after school. It really helps to keep the line moving if we can see who is coming!

A PLACE FOR THE CHILDREN
The Parish Pastoral Council invites all parishioners to an informational meeting about the Parish's vision to re-imagine a classroom in the  Ministry Building as a "Parish Children's Center."
This new facility, which would include a secure outdoor play area, would be a resource for all Parish ministries. Initial plans envision the facility being used as a Transitional Kindergarten on school days during the morning and early afternoon hours; as an instructional and recreational resource for young children in our after school and weekend Religious Education program; and as a dedicated space for some of our youngest parishioners during Children's Liturgy on Sundays.
Please plan to join us on Monday, September 25th at 7PM in Room B of the Parish Center for a brief presentation about the proposed Parish Children's Center. Parish Pastoral Council members will be available to answer your questions and gather your valuable feedback on this project. Refreshments will be provided.

EARLY PICK UP BY A NON-PARENT
Students that are going to be picked up during the school day by someone other than a parent will need a written note from a parent, that includes the date and signature of a parent. No student will be released to anyone unless a release is verified in writing by the parent. The staff may ask for identification if the staff does not know the person. The Car Pool list is only used for after school pick up and Emergency Cards are used only when your child is sick or injured or in case of earthquake or another emergency.
