Sophomore Study-Away Scholarship Give Away! October 11,  7-9 p.m., Farwell Lounge. All sophomores are invited hear stories and engage in conversation with others who have been transformed by the study away experience. All sophomore attendees are eligible to win one of three $1000 scholarships towards your own study away experience!  Pre-Registration is required by  October 6 snacks provided. Spots are limited. Book Shop Reminder:  Tuesday, September 26  is the last day to return textbooks from a dropped class. Please bring a printed current class schedule. It is also the last day you can purchase a rented book and just pay the difference. For both transactions, please bring your book(s) and receipts to the cash register area of the Book Shop.
 
Judith Saxton, trumpet, will perform a guest recital, featuring Luther College faculty artists Miko Kominami and John Cord, at 4 p.m. Saturday, September 30, in the Noble Recital Hall of the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music. Saxton will also hold a master class at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 30, in the Orchestra Rehearsal Room in the Jenson-Noble Hall of Music.

Monday, October 2, from 9:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. NIACC in Mason City is hosting a free workshop "Being Black in Iowa." A member of the NEIA Peace and Justice Center will be attending this workshop and has room in her car for a couple people. Please email Victoria Christman , if you would like to attend or if you have questions.

Reminder: Key requests must be picked up at Facilities Services within 30 days. Students who were supposed to pick up keys in August or early September this year must pick up keys by October 2. Any keys not picked up by October 2 will be pulled. At that point, the department head will need to make a  fixit.luther.edu  request again. Contact Facilities, 387-1146, with questions.

These artists from Quebec, Canada delight audiences with their gravity-defying acts. Get your tickets today for this high-energy mix of theatre and acrobatics in the Ticket Office.
Internationally recognized scholar Jeffrey Chipps Smith will deliver a lecture titled  "Martin Luther and the Reformation's Artistic Challenges" at 7 p.m. Thursday,
September 28, in Olin 102. The lecture addresses why critics of the Roman Church targeted art, how art became a potent weapon for attacking religious adversaries, the Reformation's impact on artists and Luther's role in the creation of a new, specifically Lutheran art. The lecture serves as the college's 2017 Gerhard Marcks lecture.

Banned Books: Rewards for Capture! Eleven banned books are on the run and hiding at Luther College. If you discover any of the hidden books between September 24-30, send info on their whereabouts to the Library or Book Shop using the hashtag #LutherBannedBooks2017. Rewards are available: discount coupons and a chance to win a banned book of your choice! Details about these delinquents are available on WANTED posters all over campus. (Banned Books Week 2017).
 
Luther College Dance Marathon will host its annual Donut Dash at noon Sunday, October 1. The race starts on the edge of the Luther campus, with check-in and registration in the Decorah Municipal Pool parking lot. Participants may register here . The 5K run ends at Baker Commons where runners are greeted by hot chocolate and coffee. All proceeds benefit patients of the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital.   
 
Decorah mayoral candidates Lorraine Borowski and Gary Rustad will be at the Luther College Democrats meeting on September 27 at 7:30pm in the Dahl Centennial Union, Nansen Room. They will be discussing their platforms and visions for Decorah's future in advance of the city elections on November 7. Local elections are arguably the most important, so you won't want to miss this meeting! Email [email protected] for more information.
 
Marijuana: Helpful or Harmful? With many conflicting opinions, laws, research and experiences it's hard to know what to believe about marijuana. Join us for the Real Talk Discussion Series sponsored by Counseling Service, Wellness and the CEPE, to engage in open, respectful dialogue about topics that relate to our well-being. Our first discussion, held on Wednesday, September 27, 7:00-8:00 p.m. in Larsen 120 will focus on the topic marijuana.
