 Can you believe that we are already in  the last quarter of 2017? As you can imagine, we have already begun focusing on issues that may arise during the 2018 session. Rural health care expansion, education reform, telecommunication  access in rural areas, as well as, other hot topics will be major components of the upcoming session. 

As we all work to overcome the destruction of Hurricane Irma, our Georgia farms were greatly impacted. So much so that our own, US Secretary of Agriculture, Sonny Perdue made a visit to the Peach state to evaluate the damage. As Agriculture remains our state's largest economic asset, below I have covered a few bills that we passed in hopes to further support our Georgia farms.

Agriculture Legislation
 
As much as our political landscape continues to change each year, the fact that Georgia Agriculture is the largest economic producer in the state has remained a constant in state history. Agriculture is Georgia's largest industry and contributes over $70 billion annually to our state economy.

In the District
 
Great news for our district as Governor Deal and Commissioner Knowles announce four communities in the district that have been awarded Community Development Block Grant funds. I thank Governor Deal and Commissioner Knowles for recognizing the importance of revitalizing our states rural communities.

Projects:
  • The City of Butler has been awarded $705,419 for Sewer Improvements.
  • The City of Montezuma has been awarded $750,000 for Water Improvements.
  • The City of Reynolds has been awarded $490,000 for Water and Sewer Improvements.
  • The City of Talbotton has been awarded $500,000 for Sewer Improvements.
 
I recently had the pleasure of visiting with many friends, old and new, during the After Hours Chamber event in Macon County! It is always nice to catch up with the great folks in our Senate district who I am proud and honored to represent.
