Sunday, October 15, at The INCOMPAS Show: Fall 2017 featuring the NEDAS Symposium just got more interesting, with the addition of a policy workshop, in addition to a marketing workshop and keynote address by Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-CA).

Workshops, which run from 3 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., include:

The new FCC has a full plate, and you can hear from experts about what's going on, including key regulatory changes for broadband deployment, USF revenue opportunities, potential new robocall requirements and more. After the workshops, at 5 p.m., is the keynote session, featuring Rep. Eshoo, who was elected to the role of Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology in 2011. She continues working to expand high-speed, affordable broadband, protect electronic privacy, free up more spectrum and transition our nation's 911 system to a next generation, IP-based network. As a strong champion of preserving an open internet, she has vowed to push back on Republican efforts to roll back the progress made on net neutrality regulations.

INCOMPAS Urges FCC to Reject Efforts to Redefine High-Speed Broadband in 706 Proceeding

In comments filed with FCC on Sept. 21, INCOMPAS challenged those seeking to lower the requirements for high-speed broadband benchmarks from 25 Mbps to 10 Mbps. Doing so would effectively redefine Section 706 standards to say that the availability of a mobile network offering 10/1 Mbps is sufficient broadband availability.

INCOMPAS wants the FCC to increase speed requirements for fixed broadband to 1 Gigabit speeds in order to reflect services already being offered by incumbent and competitive providers. The FCC should also uphold its requirement that Americans have access to both high-speed fixed and mobile networks. INCOMPAS said the FCC should be doing everything in its power to encourage competition and speed deployment to the benefit of residents, small businesses, schools, libraries and healthcare facilities.

"Slowing down the internet would mean slowing down the economy. It is, quite simply, a terrible idea. The latest effort by monopoly cable and phone providers to downgrade the speed benchmarks for high-speed broadband so that 10/1 Mbps is deemed sufficient, is nothing more than an attempt to rig an already broken system even further. This potentially paves the way for finding that 10/1 Mbps mobile competes with fixed broadband, which benefits those companies who would rather consolidate than compete," said INCOMPAS CEO Chip Pickering.

"On the heels of the FCC's business data services order - which shockingly defined 'one' provider in a market as a sufficient level of competition - lowering the internet benchmark speeds would run counter to the needs of everyone living, working and studying in the 21st century economy," he added. "The FCC should focus on speeding up deployment for both wired and wireless networks, not lowering the bar so monopolies can further rig the system so that Americans lose."

INCOMPAS Introduces New "Marketplace Membership"

In 2018, INCOMPAS is changing its existing Supplier Associate and Professional Associate membership categories to a new Marketplace Membership. Under this new classification, vendors will pay a flat $5,000 annual membership fee, of which half ($2,500) can be allocated toward engagement opportunities at The annual INCOMPAS Show, held each fall, or The INCOMPAS Policy Summit, which takes place in February in Washington, D.C.

The $2,500 event credit can be used toward sponsorships, exhibiting or meeting room space during the annual membership year. Plus, as a member, you will continue to receive all your current membership benefits, including the discounted member rates on all exhibit and sponsorships, as well as registration.

Any vendors wishing to join INCOMPAS for 2018 who sign up now will be extended member benefits for the remainder of 2017, including The INCOMPAS Show: Fall 2017 featuring the NEDAS Symposium.
