Summer is definitely here and for Florida residents it is time to think about travel. Some go for several months and some for a few weeks or even a few days. But no matter the length of stay, a bit of time away from the heat is hard to beat!
This month we feature a Great Escape mini vacation in Vero Beach, no shopping involved! It is just a short drive yet worlds away from the usual pace and routine of home.
Real Estate activity in BallenIsles has not slowed down with a record 13 closings in the last 2 months.. Be sure to check out the sold and for sale listings we have included.
Enjoy the rest of your summer.

How to feel like you have been gone for a week after only 36 hours away from home? This might sound impossible but we think we have the answer. Here's what we did for two days and one night with another couple.
We departed Palm Beach Gardens around 9:30 and headed North on I-95 to our first stop, McKee Botanical Gardens in Vero. The gardens are known for its 18-acre subtropical jungle hammock, filled with plants appropriate for horticultural growing in this area. This dense and diverse collection also features several restored architectural treasures such as the Spanish Kitchen and Hall of Giants. We loved it all and spent a few peaceful hours just absorbing the beauty around us especially the incredible water gardens and stunning water lilies.
By this time the troops were ravenous so we asked the kindly garden shop assistant to recommend a casual but excellent spot in town. The Lemon Tree exceeded our expectations and we were lucky enough to lunch on a Friday when lobster salad is the special of the day. We all ordered the lobster salad plate which came complete with assorted veggies, hard boiled egg and corn bread. The loveliest touch was the homemade sorbet (lemon or raspberry) offered gratis for desert. It was certainly well located too, just across the street from our hotel.
We booked a night at the Costa d'Este in the heart of Vero. This luxury beachfront resort owned by Gloria and Emilio Estefan offers guests state-of-the-art amenities and exceptional service in an unforgettable location. Enjoy the sunshine by the outdoor pool, walk along the hotel's pristine beaches, or rent a water toy or snorkel gear. We were able to book at a special Florida resident rate that included our breakfast the following morning. And our oceanfront room was fabulous, extremely well outfitted and modern!
Off to the beach and some mighty fine cocktails served cheerfully directly to our lounge chairs and umbrella. We relaxed so much that we decided to dine at the Wave restaurant right in the hotel. With trendy decor, innovative cuisine, The Wave Kitchen & Bar states its commitment to local partners on its menus: "Our aim is to use local ingredients with respect to seasonal harvests as the produce achieves its full culmination of flavors. We believe in products that are natural and pesticide-free from local farms." The drinks and wine list were special too.
After an early morning beach walk we had a scrumptious large breakfast and a few more hours on the beach before departing at 12 noon. Next stop was the Elliot Museum.
After undergoing a $20M renovation, the new 48,000-square-foot museum, a 53-year-old Martin County institution, has had a major re-visioning as well. The Elliott Museum owns perhaps the most comprehensive assemblage of antique cars and Model A trucks in the world.
To present this collection in an innovative and exciting new way, this exhibit's robotic, three-story stacking system allows visitors to select one of these 55 vehicles for closer viewing and then watch as it moves from its storage slot onto a custom turntable. The vehicle's journey to the turntable is enhanced by a multimedia presentation. This was a WOW!
Just across the street is the Florida Oceanographic Coastal Center. Sting ray pools, educational exhibits and a fish lagoon along with a nature trail offer a good look at the bounty of our Florida coastal living with just the right amount of educational content and hands-on contact.
Our last stop was downtown Jensen Beach for a wander around the galleries and shops and a cocktail with some foot stomping live music. Then off for a divine dinner at 11 Maple Street. I will save a review for another time but locals and visitors know this is just about the finest dining in the area.
A mere hour's drive and we are back home. Our 36 hour mini-vacation was a delight and perfect in every way. A lovely way to renew, relax and kick back.

REAL ESTATE TRENDS
BallenIsles Sales
Sales are thriving with 47 closings as compared to 38 for the same period of 2016. Even more good news is that inventory remains exceeding low with just 53 properties for sale. Buyers do struggle to find the right membership and property combination but continue to remain desirous of owning a property in BallenIsles. Construction of a renovated Clubhouse appears to have little effect on sales and enthusiasm grows as work progresses.
