SBA WEEKLY UPDATES:

Freshman Retreat, Friday, September 29th:
The Freshmen Retreat will be held at the Spirituality Center across the street. Freshmen are reminded to wear their uniform, pack a lunch, and report to first period as normal.  At the conclusion of the retreat they will wait in the cafeteria for their rides or buses.      

Book Fees: 
Book fees for all students are past due. If you have not paid for your daughter's books, please make final payments through the Finance Office. Questions, please email
Pilgrimage to the Holy Mother of God:
Dear Freshman Parents/Guardians:
This contact is a follow-up to a letter that your daughters received a few days ago in their religion class.  The letter explains the Freshman participation in the Pilgrimage to the Holy Mother of God on the Basilian grounds of the Sisters of the Order of Saint Basil the Great. It will be held on  Sunday, October 1.  
The letter is attached  here for you, as well.
We are looking forward to your joining us next week.

Parents' Club

Freshman Pilgrimage-Sunday, October 1st:
We are requesting a few FRESHMAN dads to help out from 1 pm to 3 pm on the Convent grounds to help carry food from the indoor kitchen to the outdoor food tent area. Please consider helping.  If you can assist, please email Isabella. at  [email protected].

Parents Club General Meeting, Thursday, October 5th:
Our first Parents Club General meeting will take place on Thursday, October 5th at 7pm.  W e invite Freshman parents to attend at 6 pm for a Meet & Greet.
Our Guest speaker this month will be our Principal, Mrs Connie D'Angelo. 

Open House- Sunday, October 8th
Please join us in showcasing our amazing school to prospective students.
Please consider volunteering for this event.   

10 Week Club
Please remember to send in your 10 Week Club Tickets that were mailed over the summer. Tickets are $20 each and are good for all 10 weeks.  The first drawing
is Monday, October 2nd.  If you sell five tickets, you get one FREE!
Additional tickets are available in the school office.

Volunteering
Volunteer forms can be returned to school anytime, or you can bring them to the first Parents' Club General Meeting on Thursday, October 5th.  The volunteer form is also available on the SBA website.

New York City Bus Trip, Friday, December 8th:
8:00 am: Departure from SBA / 8:30 pm: Return to SBA.
Cost: $35 per person (bus only).  Show Tickets: $60 per person.

Counseling & College Services

Advisory Class :
Seniors:
We are implementing an Advisory class for all students. All students must report to Advisory class during the first 30 minutes of the lunch period.   Seniors will meet for three weeks of Advisory during the month of September. Here is the break down for Seniors for the week of September 25th:

Freshman:
Freshman Advisory will begin Monday, 10/2 and the following students should meet in

Beginning October 1st:
All grade levels will be scheduled for Advisory.  Visit the  Counseling Services page of the SBA website to find the complete Advisory schedule.  Attendance will be taken during class.  

College Visits:
The following colleges and universities will be visiting Saint Basil Academy during the week of September 25.  If you would like to meet with a college representative, please sign up on Naviance.  Also please get permission from your teacher if your visit is during class time.

Jesuit College Tour will be visiting Saint Basil Academy with over 15 Jesuit colleges in attendance from 12:00 to 1:00 pm.

Seniors: Please be sure to check your school email for information from Counseling Services.
Senior Scholarship Opportunity:
Questbridge is an organization that will sponsor four years of a student's college tuition.  This program matches students with highly selective colleges.  The applicant's family income must be lower that $65,000 with little to no assets.  Applicants must be in the top 5 to 10% of the class. If you are interested, please see your counselor.

Application deadline is September 27, 2017.

AP Tests:
The Collegeboard has announced the cost of the 2018 AP tests at $94 per test. Every student that has elected to take an AP class is required to take the AP exam in May of 2018, as outlined in the Program of Study. 
When making a payment please make all checks payable to Saint Basil Academy. If you wish to pay by credit card, please pay on the  SBA website. SBA will charge $94 per exam. We ask that all payments be made by  October 31, 2017.
Financial Aid Presentation:
It's never too early to start planning for a college education for our children. Please join us on  Wednesday, November 15th at 7 pm in our Auditorium at Saint Basil Academy for the following presentation:
Using the 529 Plans to Save for College - Kelly Davis, Program Representative, Bureau of Savings Programs, Pennsylvania Treasury Department.
Understanding College Financial Aid - Fran McKeown, Higher Education Access Partner, PHEAA-Pennsylvania School Services.
Drama Club:
Rehearsals this week are Tuesday and Thursday from 3;15 to 5;30 pm.
There will be a Drama Club meeting on Thursday at 1:30  pm in the auditorium. Anyone who signed up for Drama Club should attend this meeting and bring your $3 dues, please.

Travel for Teens:
The Travel for Teens Parents meeting for both the London and Costa Rica trips will be held on Tuesday, October 17th at 7:00 pm in the cafeteria.
Coach Bag Bingo:
Coach Bag Bingo will be held Friday, November 3rd at 5:30 pm.  Tickets are on sale now and sell out quickly.  Any questions, please contact Samantha Angeline at

Pawprints:
Senior Navy Polo Shirts
Senior have the option of purchasing long sleeve navy polo shirts as part of their uniform. We are now taking online orders for them. Please place your  online order by Wednesday, September 27th. Orders take approximately two weeks to arrive. Sizes small through x-large are $21 and size 2x is $23.

Pink Day T-shirts
We are taking  online orders for our Cancer Awareness Tee. Orders must be placed by 
Thursday, September 28th. This tee may be worn on "Pink Day", 10/19/17.

Community Events:

Raising Successful Kids Presentation:
On Wednesday, September 27, Author Julie Lycott-Haims will be at The Academy of the New Church in Bryn Athyn to speak about How to Raise Successful Kids Without Over Parenting.  Julie is the New York Times best-selling author of How to Raise an Adult: Break free of the Over-Parenting Trap and Prepare Your Kid for Success.

Abington Library Teen Book Club:
The library is offering a session on The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness on Wednesday, October 18th from 4 - 5 p.m.  for ages 12-18.  Teens can sign up early for a free copy of the book. Register at the Library Information Desk (215-885-5180 x13) or online.

CHIP Program:
CHIP provides quality, comprehensive health insurance for uninsured kids for routine doctor visits, prescriptions, dental, eye care, eyeglasses, mental health and much more.
