Please register today for a family dinner at the first PTSA General Meeting of the year. Dinner is provided free of charge by the PTSA and will be held in the Commons. By registering we can make sure there is enough food for everyone.

Our family dinner is a long standing International School tradition. Parents and students are welcome to attend. It's a great way for all families, especially new families, to meet people and learn more about IS. Register today and help spread the word. See you on October 3rd at 6:00 pm!

GROWING OUR COMMUNITY HAS MANY BENEFITS

I have had such a wonderful time meeting with people this last week at grade level tailgates, Senior night, and the Synergy presentation. Building our community takes effort and time but the pay-off is a closer-knit community and creating new friends from the International School.

At our 4th week back at school, take inventory of where you are is essential. If you are reading this, you are getting the Monday Messenger, ask a friend from the IS community if they are also receiving it? Keeping the line of communication in our community brings us together. If you have a social circle of friends at IS, are all of them ISPTSA members? Asking is the first step! Are you using the DirectorySpot, having the IS community on your smartphone brings it directly to you anytime and everywhere.

Have you activated your Synergy account with ParentVUE? By doing this, you are becoming a part of the Synergy user's community at IS. Community creates Success at IS says it all. Please connect with our community in its many forms to make IS the best it can be. Our Community Gathering (general meeting) is October 3rd. Plan on being there. Everyone is invited.

COMMUNICATE WITH DIRECTORYSPOT

The ISPTSA provides an online directory of all families at our school. This is provided through an app called DirectorySpot. This is our second year using this and we are very pleased with the continually updated information we can provide to our IS community.  This app is free of charge and is available to every family at IS whether you are a PTSA member or not.

Please go to our website to get the instructions. For families that are continuing on at IS, all information has been updated. For new families, your updated information will be in DirectorySpot by our October 5th meeting or sooner. We get the information for DirectorySpot from BSD and with the new Synergy system, getting some updated information is taking a bit longer than planned.

Questions on DirectorySpot? Contact Stephanie Winkler-Hadley at [email protected].
WHAT'S HAPPENING IN PTSA

ISPTSA gives away over $20,000 to teachers and staff each year for academic and enrichment grants for students success at IS. Our community of teachers and staff create success at IS.

IS Parent Alumni Needed
The 2017 IS Curriculum Night is coming up September 28th from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm. ISPTSA will be having a table at the event to take memberships and sell our new tumblers. Since most of our parents will be wanting to attend classrooms curriculum presentations, we are looking to have some Alumni parents from IS to help us out at our PTSA table. If you are able to put in a few hours, see old friends and encourage participation in ISTPSA, please contact Meribeth, [email protected]. Our Alumni community creates Success at IS.
PTSA GRADE LEVEL TAILGATES WERE A SUCCESS!

Thank you for joining us for our grade level tailgates last week!

It was great to see so many of you, re-connect with old friends and make new ones. Rain or shine, we had a good time. Please look out for more opportunities to meet during the year.

DONATION DRIVE HELD BY IS ASB
Hey IS! ASB is holding a school supply drive starting this week for a school in Texas that was hit by Hurricane Harvey. The school is 6-12th grade just like us and they really need our help because they've lost so much.

Donations are going until 9/28
and boxes are set up in the commons and next to the attendance office. Please donate to make a difference and help out those in need!

Contact: Christina Joo at [email protected].
REMINDER TO PARENTS: CHECK SYNERGY EMAILS
Hello IS Parents! Please make sure to check Synergy on a regular basis. Specifically, it is important to double check your emails in the new Synergy grade book system. A few teachers have sent out mass emails to all of their parents and have received several undelivered emails. Teachers are concerned that those parents are not getting some important teacher emails.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: CAYLEE GILBERG, 2018

Congratulations International's Caylee Gilberg '18, Bellevue High School's Varsity Soccer Player of the Week!

There were several worthy candidates for the player of the week award at varsity: Claire has been magnificent at right back, Carly T. and Joelle are deserving, and Kiley has been dominant up-front picking up her first hat-trick of the season vs Sammamish and creating another vs Redmond. However, this week we recognize the senior center back who often doesn't get the recognition that she deserves. This is because Caylee's typical game for Bellevue is devoid of drama and risk: which is the highest compliment we can give to a center-back.

Caylee's highlight is the hundred small moments each game where she takes perfect supporting positions, tackles when she should tackle, delays when she should delay, wins headers, anticipates entry passes and chooses the right pass at the right time. It's a masterclass in how to quickly assess risk in the back and make the right decision. It's not flashy, but very effective; And when you play center-back, your role is to reduce drama, not create it. Nobody is better in the team at making sure that we have a minimum of drama in our defense, by doing her role with composure, consistency and soccer intelligence. Congratulations Caylee!
