WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 25 - 29  , 2017
Principal's message - September 22, 2017
The 2017-2018 academic year is starting out strong with a robust and focused group of STEM scholars. We will start highlighting students' work products and course specific Problem-Based Learning projects beginning with next week's newsletter. For now, below are some friendly reminders and also some new items for your review. And thank you for being an incredibly supportive community. The Tesla High School Staff and I are humbled by your generosity.

Safety:
If you are a returning T-STEM Family, you know the issues regarding Hwy 202. We are continuing to educate both students and families about the congestion, speed, and number of accidents on this stretch of road. In addition, there should not be any students walking, running, or biking on 202...nor should any of us be accessing Santana Trucking across the road as a turnaround. We are preventing their employees from getting to work. We need to be a solid community partner out here. Traffic on the eastside is intense for all of us, and we (parents, students, faculty) are all having to leave earlier to get to Tesla on time daily. Thanks for your cooperation; we appreciate it!! And...Be safe out there.

Closed Campus:
Tesla STEM High School continues to be a closed campus. Students may not leave campus during the instructional day without pre-arranged parent permission.

Communication Protocol at T-STEM:
We go directly to the source: If a T-STEM student has a question regarding an assignment, project, etc., then the student will need to email and/or talk directly to his/her instructor; if a student has an issue: the student discusses the problem with the teacher. If there is a need to further the discussion, the student will ask his/her academic counselor.
We attempt to solve the problem at one level before moving to another. If the parent and/or teacher feel that they are not resolving the issue, they may proceed to the next level, the student's administrator.
Faculty utilizes office hours and/or email as communication tools. Teachers will make every effort to return emails within 48 hours.

From the LWSD Assessment Department:
A new feature in Student and Family Access is now available. Beginning the week of 9/18/17, students and families will be able to see Smarter Balanced Assessment scores in Student and Family Access. A tab called "Test Scores" will show up in the left menu in Student and Family Access. It will show a historical record of Smarter Balanced Assessments for the past three years. Detailed directions on how to access the "Test Scores" is available on the Parent Access Support Page under "Parent Access Links."

PTSA is here to help!

Tesla STEM PTSA believes that financial need shouldn't be a barrier to students fully participating in the Tesla STEM HS curriculum. To support that, the PTSA has partnered with the school counselors and Principal to provide scholarship funds to students in need.

Families who need help with fees and supplies are encouraged to contact their counselor at STEM with their requests.

Confidentiality of such requests is strictly maintained - requests are considered by the school and no one at PTSA knows the names of the requestors.

Please don't hesitate to contact the counselors, if PTSA can help.
