The rumor mill section of this newsletter is coming out of retirement to bust a few of myths this week.
First, floor plans of the new
Pima classroom building gave the false impression that internal classrooms would have no daylight. Those rooms will get natural light through clerestory windows, illustrated here:
According to a second rumor this week, the Hopi Rebuild Committee did not have any input on the design of their school other than choosing the color of the brick. That is false and discounts the generous time and effort put in by the committee members. Their valuable input influenced everything from the placement of the Kindergarten classrooms and the number of playgrounds to the exterior colors and design.
Finally, there is a rumor circulating that voters who approved the 2016 bond voted for school refurbishment, not rebuilding. It was made clear throughout the 2016 campaign that more than half a dozen SUSD elementary schools would need to be rebuilt. This information can be found both online and in printed campaign materials from 2016. The confusion may stem from the fact that many schools will be refurbished
in addition to the schools getting new buildings.
