Autumn!

Foliage season is here!   Make plans for a getaway to see the colorful show before it all blows away (literally, in the wind).   If leaf peeping isn't your thing, late October is a great time to visit and enjoy off season rates while still being able to enjoy the outdoors before stick season.

If you're up for a challenge on the trails, check out the CircumBurke Mountain Bike & Trail Run - a 26 mile journey on foot or wheels through the woods into the wilds of Victory.

Other events this month include....

October 1st - Clif Enduro Lite

October 7th - Harvest Bike Festival

October 14th - 14th Annual NEKYS Walk

October 14th - Tempson Barn Dance

 Unpack & Unwind

There are all sorts of ways to settle in and make yourself at home here whether you prefer a Country Inn, need a whole house or want to go for something more rustic.  Lodging choices abound!

The Kirby Compound offers 40 acres and consists of a cottage, apartment and loft.  Rent one or all three and bring a whole gang while still enjoying some individual privacy.  Built by Artists, each unit is beautiful with designs and furniture that reflect a respect for nature.  The property is just a few miles to East Burke Village and there are trails on-site.

It's time to chill out and get off to a healthy start before the holidays descend.  The Stepping Stones Inn offers a tranquil location right on Kingdom Trails. Five B&B rooms are available as well as spa services and healthy meals at the on-site Bistro.

It's a biker's delight at Kingdom Farm Lodge featuring affordable, rustic and beautiful shared bath accommodations in a renovated cattle barn.  This place was made for mountain bikers with wash stations, a repair area, and storage for your ride.
  Deal of the Month

Summer may be gone, but all that means around here is that it's time to look forward to Winter and SNOW!   It's Ski Swap Season!  For some great deals and a chance to pass on your gear to other skiers, check out the Annual Burke Ski Swap on October 29th.  If you're cleaning out the closet and have items to sell, drop them off on the 28th.

Leaf Peeping Journeys

There are almost as many ways to see the foliage colors as there are actual colors to see.  Of course, you'll want to get in some last minute rides on Kingdom Trails before the snow hits the trails and the tires get fat.  If you've never been mountain biking, check out Kingdom Experiences for a guided tour from local pros who know the trails.

Over at Burke Mountain, more experienced riders can hit the downhill scene while non-riders can enjoy a scenic lift ride to take in the views.  Scenic chair lift rides are available on Saturdays and Sundays between 10am-6pm during foliage season.  A great scenic drive is just off the Mountain Road.  The Toll Road offers beautiful views any time of year, but nothing beats it for a show of autumn colors.

For journeys by water, head to Clyde River Recreation for a paddle along the lazy river.  Park the car, take a shuttle upstream and then paddle on back while enjoying the sites and colors along the shore.

Take a hike!   There are many trails within a quick drive of Burke whether you prefer a short walk or an elevated trek to the top.  Mt. Pisgah, overlooking Lake Willoughby, is always a favorite, as is Bald Mountain with the views from the tower.  Make sure to wear something orange since it is also huntin' season 'round these parts.

Another exciting way to enjoy the woods is a guided ATV tour with NEK Adventures.  Book now and try something different this year for your leaf peeping.   Who knows what else you'll see among the colorful leaves - a moose, a bear, a gaggle of turkeys....

There's still time to tee off and the Barton Golf Club has some great deals along with the great views.  Tee off after 3pm and greens fees are just $12 for 9 holes or $15 for 18 holes.  Add a cart and it's just $19 or $25.
