Centenary's Weekly Newsletter September 22, 2017
A Message from Centenary
The Staff-Parish Relations Committee has been working this summer to reconcile the church's staffing plan to our Strategic Plan, developed by our 2020 Committee and Administrative Council. One of the main objectives of this work has been to move toward a reduced use of our endowment for operating expenses so it can help sustain Centenary's long-term future. Several changes are coming as a result.

First, the position of Director of Membership Development, held by Ann Davis, will be discontinued. We will redistribute the position's duties to a combination of other staff and volunteers. Ann is currently considering other opportunities, but has not yet settled on one. We are all very grateful to Ann for her hard work, friendship and good cheer. She is truly an extraordinary person and we wish her the very best.

Second, the position of Minister to Senior Adults will be redefined to include a greater emphasis on coordinating the work of volunteers, with the goal of increasing the overall reach of our senior adult ministry. There will be no change in hours for this part-time position.  After considering this reconfigured position, Rev. Cheryl Owen-Watson has decided that she will seek other opportunities. Cheryl will continue in her current capacity through December 1. We are very grateful for Cheryl's caring, compassionate presence with our older adults and wish her the very best.

At the same time, two other members of our part-time staff have told us of their decisions to retire in the coming months. Saran Yin, our Sexton, and John Lampe, Senior Accountant are planning to retire. We are evaluating options to replace their valuable efforts, for which we are all extremely grateful.

If you have questions about any of these changes, please reach out to Reid Ashe, Chair of the Staff Parish Relations Committee, Jan Nelson, Chair of the Administrative Council, or Joe Speidel, Chair of the 2020 Committee.

Over the years we have shipped 120,000 meals, which help reverse these terrible statistics The golf tournament is a great way to enjoy the open air, have moderate exercise, a chance to meet and enjoy old and new friends, AND make a difference in the world. This year we have renamed the tournament in honor of Earl Siddons who ran the tournament for 20 years. Bring your own foursome or we can match you up with others. If you are not a golfer, you can sponsor a hole or join us at lunch. This year we are also inviting the other churches in the Downtown Community Ministries to join us for the tournament and the packaging event. To make your reservation for the tournament, call the church office at 804-648-8319 or contact Doug Wilson, Ann Davis or Nancy Cook.
