H ydrant Flow Testing
is scheduled for Wednesday, September 27, 2017,
weather permitting.  These tests are required as we develop a water system model which will enhance our current structure.  This testing may cause temporary reduction in water pressure and some discoloration may occur. This is not harmful.  Department officials recommend limited water use during the testing which includes water to wash clothes and dishes, if possible. Please check your water before use. If it is discolored, run the cold water until it clears.  Any questions or concerns can be directed to the Water Department at 767-2200 x305.

It is a pleasure to make the town aware that North Smithfield has recently achieved compliance with a complex set of state and federal rules for maintenance and sampling of the town's drainage system.  It may seem trivial to some, but I think it merits notice in that the obligations imposed by the storm water rules have not been easy to meet.  It has taken some time, but as a September 1 RIDEM letter indicates, the town has achieved MS4 compliance.
That is a credit to the determination of many Town of North Smithfield personnel, including former TA Hamilton and Planner Ericson, as well as current Planner Kravitz, and Assistant Planner Moneghan.  But most of all, it is the guidance of DPW Director Pendergast and the work and persistence of our entire DPW crew and their consultant Casali Engineering.  Some will always see rules like these as onerous and look to evade the burden that they impose.  It clearly hasn't been easy, but the persistence of good people and patience of RIDEM personnel has resulted in success which will ultimately benefit the water quality of our rivers and streams.

STAFF MEMBER ABSENCE NOTICE
A member of our staff at the Annex has unfortunately had to take a number of weeks off to manage a health matter.  We wish her well and hope for a swift recovery.  In the interim my assistant, Tami Jacques, will be going to the Annex at midday to be sure that others in the same office are able to have lunch and to be sure customers at the counter or on the phone get the help they need.  That will mean the phone at Tami's desk in Town Hall will be picked up by the phone system between the hours of 11:00 and 1:45.   Of course any caller can still access any department or individual by using the phone system directory (including the administrator at extension 303) and Tami will return calls or forward them as needed as soon as possible when she returns to Town Hall.  Our intent is to maintain our service for every need, while also managing the cost of doing so.  We will appreciate your patience as we do our best to cover all needs.
