Dave Root has become a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, one of the premier legal associations in North America. The induction ceremony at which Dave Root became a Fellow took place recently before an audience of approximately 900 persons during the recent 2017 Annual Meeting of the College in Montreal, Quebec.
 
"This is a huge honor for Dave and recognition of his talent, which we at the firm well know," stated Firm Managing Partner Shannon Sprinkle. "The American College of Trial Lawyers is the most prestigious organization for trial lawyers. It recognizes a career-long history of trial achievement at the highest level, and in Dave's case it is a well-deserved honor. I could not be more proud to have Dave join the ranks of our three other partners - Tom Carlock, Wade Copeland and Joe Kingma - acknowledged in this way!"

Sarah Wetmore and Laura Paton are both presenting on panels at 2017 CLM & Business Insurance's Construction Conference, October 9-11, 2017, in San Diego, CA.  Laura's presentation, titled No Reservations: Crafting a Reservation of Rights Letter After Harleysville v. RECENT NEWS AND SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS 
 
Angela Kopet was named to The CLM 2017 Claims College faculty, which Carlock Copeland sponsored. The CLM's 2017 Claims College was in Baltimore, MD, September 6-9, 2017.  Angela taught in the School of Leadership - Leading Through Change & Adversity, on Friday September 8, 2017 and the School of Casualty Claims - Level 2: Case Resolution: Development of Negotiation Strategy, also on Friday September 8, 2017.

Joe Kingma  participated as Guest Speaker at Top Ten Tax Traps and How to Deal with Them at the Four Seasons Hotel in Atlanta on August 8. Topics included claims for refund with omitted arguments, failure to timely contest denials, limitations extensions that lead to larger deficiencies, missed elections, inadequate disclosures and other dangerous practice problems. The panel covered the best ways to deal with the things that keep accountants and auditors awake at night.
 
Michael Manfredi participated in the NBI seminar Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Law - Made Simple at The Cobb Galleria Centre in Atlanta on June 27, 2017. Michael presented two sessions, Clarifying UM/UIM Coverage - Carrier Obligations Made Simple and Is the Motorist Underinsured? Easy Ways to Calculate Limits and Damages. 
COMMUNITY NEWS  

Michael Manfredi assigned as Judge at the Round 4 Empire Mock Trial being held at the Clayton County Superior Court, 9151 Tara Boulevard, Jonesboro, GA on September 24.


Carlock, Copeland & Stair was proud to sponsor Southern
Shindig, a charitable event for Skyland Trail. Jason Deere and his wife chaired the event. Skyland Trail is a non-profit mental health treatment organization here in Atlanta that focuses on treating adults with mental health issues. Skyland Trail uses hands on, community based treatment methods and is well known in the mental health community for its effectiveness at treating mental health issues. Proceeds from the Southern Shindig enable Skyland Trail to offer life-changing treatment programs to individuals with financial need, as well as help reduce the stigma associated with mental issues through community support. Skyland Trail awards over one million dollars every year in financial aid to help individuals afford treatment at their world class facility. The Southern Shindig took place on August 18th at Sweetwater Brewery. This event raised just over $50,000. The Southern Shindig is geared toward and organized by young professionals in Atlanta and its goal is to introduce the work of Skyland Trail to a younger demographic of potential volunteers and supporters.


Eric Frisch and Mike DiOrio participated in the annual Emory Healthcare/American Heart Association golf tournament at East Lake Golf Club on August 14, 2017. The Firm was a silver sponsor. Emory Healthcare has a long tradition of supporting the American Heart Association. Over the past 15 years, Emory Healthcare has raised over $4 million through employees participating in the Heart Walk. Through these efforts, the American Heart Association has been able to invest nearly $15 million back into the Atlanta area through research grants, advocacy efforts, and community health education programs annually. Emory alone has received over $7.5 million dollars in active research grants from the American Heart Association.
