VR agencies play an important role in delivering services to transition-age youth with disabilities as youth prepare to move into employment or post-secondary education. VR agencies collect or have access to large amounts of data on client services and outcomes, data that may go largely underutilized. This brief illustrates how state vocational rehabilitation (VR) agencies can use performance management tools and processes to leverage their data systems for program improvement.
This study examined vocational rehabilitation service and outcome
differences between youth with disabilities who participated in a model
transition intervention and youth with disabilities who did not (Luecking,
Fabian, Contreary, Honeycutt & Luecking, 2017). The transition model
featured research supported components integrated into a single service
model and implemented across eleven Maryland school districts from 2007
- 2013. Using administrative data extracted from the Maryland Division of
Rehabilitation Services (DORS), we compared service and outcome data
for participants with that of non-participants.
This Fast Fact describes students enrolled in TPSIDs (Transition and Postsecondary Programs for Students with Intellectual Disabilities) in 2014-2015, shares differences in demographics based on whether or not their TPSID program partnered with a state VR agency, and encourages partnering with VR agencies.

This webinar is intended to explore examples of partnerships that meaningfully connect various pieces of community resource, resulting in a common vision that assists individuals with Intellectual Disability in achieving independence, careers and community engagement.

This webinar will provide an overview of customized employment. Customized employment is a strategy that provides individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment, with options for employment beyond "off the shelf" jobs. This approach to employment offers individuals previously thought to be unemployable, opportunities to obtain integrated employment. This webinar will 1) discuss the components and essential elements of customized employment and 2) address the critical role of vocational rehabilitation services to support both the job seeker and business.

The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) represents significant promise for improving transition outcomes when implemented in the context of proven transition service models. This session: 1.describes a seamless transition model that features research based service components; 2. compares vocational rehabilitation service elements, service costs, and vocational rehabilitation (VR) closure statuses of youth served through this model with a matched sample of youth who received other services; and 3. offers implications for transition and VR practice with students and youth with disabilities, especially in the context of transition service requirements of WIOA.

State of the Art Conference
The 2017 State of the Art Conference on Postsecondary Education and Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities will be held November 15-16 in Syracuse, NY.
This popular conference of 300+ participants provides opportunities for colleges and universities, researchers, program staff, parents and self-advocates to learn about the current state of research and practice in the field, and to network with each other. Panels that include faculty and staff from postsecondary education initiatives, parents, self-advocates, and other experts, share effective practices during break-out sessions with opportunities for group discussion. New this year is a parallel student conference on Syracuse University's campus, with the goal of bringing more high school and college students into the conversation.
