St. Michael's Academy
  :

It has been a productive and great first four weeks of school!  The students are settingly in nicely and becoming comfortable in their routines.   It's so nice to get back into the rhythm of things!

As many of you know, the SMA Walk-a-thon is coming up and I ask all families to consider supporting their child in gaining sponsorships for their walk.  We offer the opportunity for the students to win some great prizes.  As I have said in the past, this is only one of two major fundraisers that we do here at St. Michael's and it is successful because everyone participates and pitches in.  I hope you have the opportunity to join us - it is really a fun day for all involved.  And we are raising money in addition to having fun.  I can't think of a better combo myself!

It sounds like it is going to be a beautiful weekend.  I hope you have the opportunity to get outside, enjoy the weather and spend some time with your loved ones.

Peace,

Ann E. Dougal
Principal

From The Classroom of  Mrs. Santos - Gr. Kindergarten

Kindergarten Is Off To A Great Start!

During the first few weeks in kindergarten, we have learned what it is like to be a part of a "classroom community" by practicing how to cooperate together each day. The students are doing a great job and I can really see the friendships forming!

In math we have been working hard learning how to form the numbers  1-5.  To help the students remember the shapes of the numbers, we use a little poem for each:

#1  - A straight line down makes a one, writing numbers can be fun!
#2  - Around the bend and straight to you, that's how you make a two.
#3 - Around to me and around to me, this is the number three.
#4 - Half way down, then turn right, a tall straight stick and four is in                 sight.
#5 - A neck and tummy, with his hat he looks so funny.
#6 - Put a line down then go around, the number six we have found
#7 - Across the sky and down from heaven, this is the way we make a             seven.
#8 - Make an s but do not wait, close it up you have an eight
#9 - Make an oval then a line, this is how we make a nine

In religion, we are practicing  how to make the sign of the cross and learning "The Lord's Prayer" as well as how to say grace before lunch and snack time.  The students have been discussing the importance of appreciating and thanking God for all the wonderful gifts He has given us in the world around us.

And finally in reading, we've had fun learning and exploring rhyming words.

All in all, it's been a fun and exciting start to the school year in kindergarten!

 Facilities Update

Gymnasium Update

Have you seen the gym ??!!

If you haven't, it is certainly worth going out of your way to see. As part of our building improvements, we have removed the plywood all across the top of the gymnasium and installed new glass windows. What a difference!  The gym is bright and cheery and a great place to be!

Back To School Night

Back To School Night

And speaking of the gymnasium, next Wednesday evening is the perfect opportunity to check it out.  We are talking about the annual Back To School Night.  Join us from 6-7 p.m. and hear what is new at St. Michael's Academy and what plans lie ahead for the future. The evening is for parents only with the exception of the choir members who have been asked to attend.  See you there!

 Grade 5

Mrs. Senecal's Class Is Jumping!

The fifth grade students are reading a story about Double Dutch jump roping.  To help the students get into the mood of the story, they spent some time sharing their own jump rope skills with each other!

 Middle Level Dance

First Dance Of The Year

There was a lot of excitement as St. Michael's Academy middle level held their first dance of the school year.  Check out some of the photos! First photo is courtesy of Mrs.  Pietrucci - thank you!

  Walk-a-thon

Get Your Sneakers Warmed Up!

Dust off your sneakers and get ready for the eighth annual SMA annual Walk-a-thon on Friday, October 6th! The event begins at 9 a.m. with our preschoolers doing laps around the parking lot and grades kindergarten through eighth will do laps around the school block.

Information with a sponsor sheet was sent home with students last week and we hope everyone is ready to participate.  There are lots of prizes to be awarded including the famous limo ride to school for the top fundraisers from the middle school level (6-8).

To ensure the safety of our students, we are in need of as many volunteers as possible for the morning.  We ask that you sign up early so we can effectively distribute volunteers where they are needed. Thank you to all who have already volunteered - you will receive a confirmation email.  For those who are still contemplating it, it's not too late!  Just call the main office or email [email protected].  It's a fun day and the students have a blast - join us!
