Internationally recognized scholar Jeffrey Chipps Smith will deliver a lecture titled  "Martin Luther and the Reformation's Artistic Challenges" 
at 7 p.m. Thursday, September 28, in Olin 102. The lecture addresses why critics of the Roman Church targeted art, how art became a potent weapon for attacking religious adversaries, the Reformation's impact on artists and Luther's role in the creation of a new, specifically Lutheran art. The lecture serves as the college's 2017 Gerhard Marcks lecture.

The Women and Gender Studies program at Luther College is hosting a welcome reception and art exhibit debuting the artwork of Yousra Elkhalifa from  4-6 p.m.   Friday, September 22 , in the Women and Gender Equality Center (Gjerset House).
 
Banned Books: Rewards for Capture! Eleven banned books are on the run and hiding at Luther College. If you discover any of the hidden books between September 24-30, send info on their whereabouts to the Library or Book Shop using the hashtag #LutherBannedBooks2017. Rewards are available: discount coupons and a chance to win a banned book of your choice! Details about these delinquents are available on WANTED posters all over campus. (Banned Books Week 2017).
 
Luther College Dance Marathon will host its annual Donut Dash at noon Sunday, October 1. The race starts on the edge of the Luther campus, with check-in and registration in the Decorah Municipal Pool parking lot. Participants may register here . The 5K run ends at Baker Commons where runners are greeted by hot chocolate and coffee. All proceeds benefit patients of the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital.   
 
Decorah mayoral candidates Lorraine Borowski and Gary Rustad will be at the Luther College Democrats meeting on September 27 at 7:30pm in the Dahl Centennial Union, Nansen Room. They will be discussing their platforms and visions for Decorah's future in advance of the city elections on November 7. Local elections are arguably the most important, so you won't want to miss this meeting! Email lcdemocrats@luther.edu for more information.
 
Marijuana: Helpful or Harmful? With many conflicting opinions, laws, research and experiences it's hard to know what to believe about marijuana. Join us for the Real Talk Discussion Series sponsored by Counseling Service, Wellness and the CEPE, to engage in open, respectful dialogue about topics that relate to our well-being. Our first discussion, held on Wednesday, September 27, 7:00-8:00 p.m. in Larsen 120 will focus on the topic marijuana.   

Center Stage Series presents Flip FabriQue "Catch me!", Saturday, September 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the Center for Faith and Life, Main Hall. These artists from Quebec, Canada delight audiences with their gravity-defying acts. Get your tickets today for this high-energy mix of theatre and acrobatics in the Ticket Office.

Book Shop Family Weekend Event - Saturday, September 23 from  10 a.m.-12 p.m., members from the Luther Pep Band will be applying FREE Luther tattoos and playing tunes in the Book Shop.

The Luther College Concert Band and Jazz Orchestra will perform a concert at
12:30 p.m.
  Saturday, September 23 , in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life.

Luther College's music department will present a concert of vocal and instrumental music at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, September 23, as part of Luther's Family Weekend activities. The concert, featuring Norsemen, Aurora, Cantorei, Cathedral Choir, Collegiate Chorale, Varsity Band, and Wind and Percussion Ensemble, will take place in the Center for Faith and Life, Main Hall.

Luther College HOLA-Enlaces will host a viewing of Luis Argueta's documentary, abUSed on Wednesday, September 27 at 7 p.m. in Olin 102. Join us to view the experiences of local Postville neighbors and Luther alumni in this film that documents "the gripping personal stories of the individuals, the families, and the town that survived the most brutal, most expensive, and the largest immigration raid in the history of the United States" (Argueta).

Near Death Experiences: Windows into the Nature and Origin of Consciousness is the lecture on  Tuesday, September 26 at 7 p.m. in the Center for Faith and Life, Recital Hall by Marjorie Woollacott , visiting Oen Fellow. Reception and book signing to follow in Qualley Lounge. Other open events are a  Brown bag lunch Wednesday, September 27 at 11:30 a.m. in Mott Room  and a  Biology Colloquium Thursday, September 28 at 9:40 a.m. in Valders 206 . Copies of her book are available in the Book Shop and at the book signing. The Oen Fellowship Program is presented by the Religion Department.
