City Introduces Bicycle Pedestrian Transportation Plan Update

The Department of Public Works and Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) introduced the 2017 update to the City's Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation Plan (BPTP) at last Monday's City Council meeting after over four years of BPAC hearings and development.

The Plan will guide bicycle and pedestrian policies, programs, and infrastructure decision. The plan identifies projects to improve the City's bicycle pedestrian network (including creating "bicycle boulevards," implementing the Safe Routes to School plans, improving dangerous crossings, extending sidewalks to eliminate gaps, and installing accessible curb ramps).  We encourage public comment on the Draft Plan. The City Council will consider adoption of the BPTP in November.

Upcoming Cannabis Regulations

Beginning on January 1, 2018, the State will issue licenses regulating the commercial production, sale and distribution of medicinal and non-medicinal marijuana. Local jurisdictions, similar to Mill Valley, are in the process of enacting local regulations regarding commercial cannabis.

On  September 26, 2017 the Planning Commission will consider a draft ordinance which recommends continuing our ban on commercial and medical cannabis use in Mill Valley. The Planning Commission's recommendation is expected to be heard by the City Council in late October.

Steps, Lanes, and Paths Inventory Map Available for Review

The City of Mill Valley has been working to meet the goals of the City Council's nine-point action plan for Steps, Lanes, and Paths (SLPs) that was adopted in January 2017. One part of that plan was to create an inventory of SLPs and create an official SLP map. The Steps, Lanes, and Paths inventory was adopted in March and the map is now available for public review prior to being delivered to the Marin County Recorder's Office on September 30, 2017. The purpose of recording the map is to provide notice to property owners and the public of the general location of the SLPs listed in the City of Mill Valley's Official SLP Inventory.  We invite community members to view the updated Steps, Lanes, and Paths map online or in person.
