There will be a Ministry Launch Meeting Saturday, October 7th from 9-11am
for all those involved and interested in serving, to meet and develop Ministry Descriptions for the work of St. Brendan's as we move forward with implementing our Parish Renewal Plan.
Those who are - or would like to be - involved but are not able to attend are invited to contact the Vestry Advocate(s) for the Ministry area(s) of interest.

Joining in Song: The Concert Across America
St. Brendan's will join in song for The Concert Across America, Sunday, Sept. 24th, the day before the date designated by Congress in 2007 as a day of remembrance for murder victims. This nationwide event will bring together a network of organizations, activists and artists with the dual goals of keeping guns out of dangerous hands and making the issue of illegal guns top of mind for members of Congress, the President and potential challengers, and the American people as they remained energized ahead of the 2018 and 2020 elections. In addition to grassroots concerts, a national sing a-long, spearheaded by Stop Handgun Violence in Boston, will take place in more than a hundred locations.

Local Program of Interest
Community Forum to Discuss Comprehensive Healthcare
This Sunday, September 24th at 3pm, the Opera House will be hosting an important forum on healthcare, beginning with the screening of
FIX IT- Healthcare at the Tipping Point. A moderated discussion and Q&A will follow, with a panel of local physicians, political leaders and nationally known health experts.
All are welcome to attend this free and informative event. This community forum is sponsored by the Downeast Chapter of Maine ALLCare, a nonprofit nonpartisan organization dedicated to universal, comprehensive health care
for every Maine resident.

Scripture Notes for The Sixteenth Sunday After Pentecost
The theme of today's liturgy is set by the Gospel reading. The
parable of the laborers in the vineyard is one of Jesus' most important statements concerning
God's call to all people. That call is always open regardless of our past level of commitment.
Those who accept it late are rewarded equally with those of long standing in the Kingdom. It is also
a warning to those who have been committed
to God for many
years, lest they think
themselves superior to those newly responding to the call of God.
We continue the story of the Exodus. The Israelites are free, but now the people complain of
hunger and wish to be back in Egypt. But God acts and provides
them with food in the desert as
a sign of his love, even when they are ungrateful.
Today we begin reading Paul's letter to the church in Philippi. Written to
encourage the Philippian church, the letter comes from a period when Paul
was imprisoned and his own life
was in danger.
God's promise to us is not a reward for doing things right. It is our heritage as children and heirs
of God's promise. When we gather to sing and tell the story
of God's salvation, we discover
anew our identity and the identity of all people.
Not content to have us merely as creatures, God
has made us sons and daughters who feast at the table of God's home, which is our home as well.

In Our Prayers
We pray for those on our prayer list suffering and recovering from illnesses,
especially Wilma Turner, William, Pat Stoneburner, Tony Stoneburner, Holly, Carolyn Angel, Colin MacNaught, Shannon Cormier, Nancy Stearns, Daniel Harriman, Diane, John, Tom, Claudia, Kathy Gray, Hannah Scaife, Marcia Scott, Bob Harris, Sen. John McCain, Ann Ottesen, Henry 'Hank' Millon, Jennifer Hulsey and her family Byron, Ben, and Clair. We pray, also, for those who love and care for them.
We pray for those struggling with addiction and mental illness.
We pray for all those receiving care through Neighbor Care and for all the residents of the Island Nursing Home, the Northern Bay Residential Facility,
and their families.
We pray for the dying, and those who have died. We remember also those who mourn.
We pray for the victims of gun violence-in our cities and towns, in our schools, in our places of worship, and in our homes.
We pray for the victims of the violence of armed conflicts around the world. We pray for those made refugees by the violence of armed conflicts. We pray for the victims of terrorist attacks everywhere.
We pray for all who suffer the effects of domestic violence and the violence
of bullying in our schools.
We pray for all peacemakers, and all those who work for justice.
We pray for all those serving in the armed forces of our country,
remembering, especially, Craig, Chris, and Graham.
We pray for all who govern, and we pray for the concerns of our local community, remembering, especially, our children, our young people, and
our isolated elderly.
We pray for Justin, Archbishop of Canterbury; Suheil, Bishop of Jerusalem; Michael, our Presiding Bishop; Steve, our Bishop; for the members of our vestry; and for all our members, whose ministries are varied and far-reaching.
In the Diocesan Cycle of Prayer, we pray for
the congregation of St. Martin's, Palmyra and All Saints', Skowhegan. For Civil Discourse during a time of election. For the harvest, and the fruits of human work.
In the Anglican Cycle of Prayer, we pray for
Southeast Florida - (IV, The Episcopal Church)
On the Island and Peninsula,
we pray for St. Mary Star of the Sea.
