Monroe County Schools will release early on Monday, August 21 for Solar Eclipse
To Parents, Students, Faculty, and Community Stakeholders:
The Monroe County School System will be on an early release schedule for students and staff on Monday, August 21, 2017.  Our area will be experiencing a solar eclipse from approximately 1:00 pm-4:00 pm on this date. After much deliberation and feedback from school stakeholders, we feel it best to shorten the school day. Several factors influenced our decision to move in this direction:
  1. Eye safety concerns for students and staff and challenges with securing proper eyewear to view the eclipse in a safe manner.
  2. Parents, students, and faculty will be able to experience the solar eclipse with their families, friends, and groups since this phenomenon happens so rarely during a lifetime.
  3. Parents and their children will also have the opportunity to travel farther north on this date to view the total eclipse that will take place mid-afternoon.
The solar eclipse will be a wonderful learning opportunity for parents, students, and the entire community. Our school system will provide information and learning activities associated with the solar eclipse on the system and school websites. If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.
If students are absent from school or check out before early release on this date due to the eclipse, the absences will be unexcused; however, we will allow students to make up any assignments missed on this date.
All extra-curricular activities scheduled for this date after 4:00 pm will proceed as scheduled. Parents/Guardians will be responsible for transporting students to after school practices and extra-curricular activities. Note- after school programs at each elementary school will be canceled on this date.
*Lunch will be served before students are released.
As always, we thank you for your understanding and continued support of our great school system!

What's the difference between the student login and the parent portal?

A Message from Monroe County Schools Nurses:
It's Time to Plan for Flu Vaccinations

Monroe County Schools will be partnering with the Monroe County Health Department to provide the flu vaccination program to children at school again this year.
Every year, children are infected by the influenza virus, causing serious illness and missed school days.  Some children suffer serious complications, especially those with asthma, diabetes, and nervous system disorders.  Vaccination is the best way to protect your child from this potentially serious disease.
The Monroe County Schools flu vaccination clinic will be Wednesday, September 27 through Friday, September 29.  Consent forms will be sent home with students on September 7 th and should be returned to school no later than September 15 th .
The only vaccination available for the flu is now the shot. Flu mist is no longer available and can not be provided at any location. Please take advantage of this opportunity to get your child vaccinated, so your entire family can stay healthy this flu season.
