Description: We live in a radical time, amidst severe climate changes, the expansion of human tragedy and the growth of collective fear and anxiety. Yet, the great crises of the world do not take place outside the human soul. Rather, history is made in the struggle of the individual soul to survive and make sense of the world no matter how dark things may become.
When everything seems about to fall apart, something deep in the soul of humanity responds. This inner inheritance includes both deep instincts for survival and surprising capacities for renewal. In mythic terms, each soul is connected to the Soul of the World and each person is pregnant with meaning and an innate genius waiting to express itself.

Michael Meade, D.H.L.
, is a renowned storyteller, author, and scholar of mythology, anthropology, and psychology. He combines hypnotic storytelling, street-savvy perceptiveness, and spellbinding interpretations of ancient myths with a deep knowledge of cross-cultural rituals. He has an unusual ability to distill and synthesize these disciplines, tapping into ancestral sources of wisdom and connecting them to the stories we are living today
He is the author of The Genius Myth, Fate and Destiny: The Two Agreements of The Soul, Why the World Doesn't End, The Water of Life: Initiation and the Tempering of the Soul; editor, with James Hillman and Robert Bly, of Rag and Bone Shop of the Heart; and editor of Crossroads: A Quest for Contemporary Rites of Passage. Meade is the founder of Mosaic Multicultural Foundation, a nonprofit network of artist, activists, and community builders that encourages greater understanding between diverse peoples.

Gift and Purpose

A five class web seminar in discovery and implementation
Have you ever felt like you're here in this world to do something specific, good and big, but can't seem like you know what it is? Do you know that you have a gift and wonder how best to bring it into the world? Do you feel like a person of service who does not know what to serve? Are you trying to share the gifts you know you embody while feeling like all kinds of obstacles are blocking you from doing just that? Are you aware of your gift and purpose already; yet feeling inspired to deepen your relationship and experience with it? If any of the above rings a bell, you are invited to this online course.
In indigenous Dagara culture each person comes into this world with, and as a gift. The purpose of life is to deliver the gift using a style that is personal to maximize elegance, ease and beauty. This means that gift makes life purposeful.
This course that comes with a study guide is intended to empower you as you bring forth your gift out into the world, to help you recognize and acknowledge it, and to embrace it in the style that is consistent with who you are. In our core, we all want to contribute that which defines us as people of service.
The introductory course will situate gift and purpose within cosmology and mythology with a mind to capture its concise definition to help everyone including those who already have an idea of their gift, but are not sure; as well as those who have no clue at all.
At the
first
official web class, we will dissect the notion of Gift within our existential state with a mind to examine the existence of various branches of it. We will lay out the tools with which to identify them. But more importantly, we will stress the danger of living outside of the Gift as well as identify the benefit of living with it.
At the
second web class
we will address the meaning of Purpose and the life events that inform it. We will define Purpose in relation to gift and steer your imagination toward becoming confident with it.
The
third web class
will focus on the interconnection between Gift and Purpose with a mind to highlight the ways in which the one informs the other. Knowing your Gift clarifies your Purpose; not always the other way around.
Once you know your gift and purpose, then the challenges of implementation become an unavoidable focus. This will be the topic of w
eb class number four
. The art of dealing with obstacles and adversity while sharpening your style of delivery is a must.
During the
fifth and final web class
, we will expand on the choreography of the gift with a better look at the destination of it. This will bring our focus on to community as the principal target recipient and the very reason why we come into this world with a gift.

"Purpose and gift are one and the same. Each of us came into this world with a gift. The gift is our profession, the thing we are most qualified to do in this lifetime. In indigenous thinking, there is no way one can arrive in this world without one. So the larger issue in the modern world is to quickly find out what that gift is in order to radiate and live it. This is what initiation in indigenous culture takes care of. Initiation allows the individual to become aware of, and to see their gift directly from the other world. Seeing the gift is seeing the light. It bursts open the floodgate of emotion and commitment and anchors a person's life in it."

"Throughout time and culture, humans have found and explored profoundly creative ways-through both formal and organic inquiry-to address the deeper aspects of who we are; not only as temporary corporeal beings, but also as spiritual souls.
In this way, the Dagara tribe of West African people have ancient traditions and methods of ritual and divination that have served their people as a useful modality to understand individual gifts and purpose. In a spirit of creative imploration, they seek out the help and guidance from the Otherworld through a method called cowry shell divination. In this useful modality, they have found ways to dissolve the normal boundaries of the tangible, mundane world and travel into the spiritual realms of their ancestors."
