Monroe County Schools will release early on Monday, August 21 for Solar Eclipse
To Parents, Students, Faculty, and Community Stakeholders:
The Monroe County School System will be on an early release schedule for students and staff on Monday, August 21.  Our area will be experiencing a solar eclipse from approximately 1:00 pm-4:00 pm. After much deliberation and feedback from school stakeholders, we feel it best to shorten the school day.  Several factors influenced our decision to move in this direction:
  1. Eye safety concerns for students and staff and challenges with securing proper eyewear to view the eclipse in a safe manner.
  2. Parents, students, and faculty will be able to experience the solar eclipse with their families, friends, and groups since this phenomenon happens so rarely during a lifetime.
  3. Parents and their children will also have the opportunity to travel farther north on this date to view the total eclipse that will take place mid-afternoon.
The solar eclipse will be a wonderful learning opportunity for parents, students, and the entire community. Our school system will provide information and learning activities associated with the solar eclipse on the system and school websites. If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.
If students are absent from school or check out before early release on this date due to the eclipse, the absences will be unexcused; however, we will allow students to make up any assignments missed on this date.
All extra-curricular activities scheduled for this date after 4:00 pm will proceed as scheduled. Parents/Guardians will be responsible for transporting students to after school practices and extra-curricular activities. Note- after school programs at each elementary school will be canceled on this date.
*Lunch will be served before students are released.
As always, we thank you for your understanding and continued support of our great school system!

The following guidance is issued for fans attending Mary Persons High School home football games during the 2017 school year.
  • The parking area behind Dan Pitts Stadium will accommodate permitted MPHS Touchdown Club members.  Attendants will be on hand to assist with organized parking.
  • The lot adjacent to Mary Persons 9th grade campus will be available until full.
  • Fans may park on Mary Persons High School Main Campus (at 310 Montpelier Avenue) for a short walk to the stadium.
  • Free school bus shuttles will be provided from and to the Monroe County Education Center (old Monroe Academy - 433 U.S. Highway 41 South) both before and after the game. Drop-off before the game and pick-up after the game will be on the front circle of the BOE campus.
  • Fans arriving via I-75 are encouraged to take Exit 185, go west on Highway 18, and park at the Education Center (located at GA Hwy 18 and U.S. 41) for the short bus shuttle to the game.
The parking area between the back of the Board of Education office and stadium/field house is reserved as handicapped parking for those fans in wheelchairs or who need assistance to and from the car.  Only fans displaying a legal handicapped permit will be allowed to park in this area. This parking will be available first come, first served.
Fans should note the following in terms of access to the BOE campus and stadium area:
  • The BOE campus entrance on Brooklyn Avenue (U.S. Highway 41) will be open for access to all campus parking.  Uniformed law enforcement officers, supported by Board of Education staff wearing orange vests, will be on duty to assist patrons with access to appropriate parking.
  • City police officers will close Newton Memorial Drive between Montpelier Avenue and the Stadium to all vehicle traffic prior beginning at 5 p.m.   This access will be reopened at the conclusion of the football game for exit-only traffic.
  • There will be NO Parking allowed in the City of Forsyth Cemetery west of Mitchell Field.   This will be strictly enforced and persons in violation will be subject to tow or impound.
  • There will be NO Parking allowed along the sides or shoulders of U.S. 41 (Brooklyn Avenue).  Persons violating this rule will be subject to tow or impound.
  • The roadway between the Board of Education campus and the Mary Persons Main Campus will be closed at 5 p.m. to all fan vehicle traffic and used for school bus (local and visiting team) traffic only.
  • Monroe County Emergency Services will provide lighted directional signs to assist drivers and provide instruction.  Once the BOE campus parking is full, the area will be closed to vehicle traffic and these signs will direct patrons to additional parking.
Fans are encouraged to carpool with others as much as possible to reduce the number of vehicles.  Attendees also are reminded to be respectful of residential and commercial property in the area.
Mary Persons High School and Monroe County Board of Education appreciates the cooperation of all city and county agencies during the 2017 football season.  Our common goal is to make visiting Dan Pitts Stadium at Mitchell Field a pleasant experience.

(Seats will be checked upon entering the venue.  If the seats are larger than the established guidelines, the individual will be asked to take the seat back to their vehicle before entering the event.)
2.  Children in grades 5 and below should be with a parent or guardian at all times.  They should not be walking around the venue without adult supervision.

A Message from Monroe County Schools Nurses:
It's Time to Plan for Flu Vaccinations

Monroe County Schools will be partnering with the Monroe County Health Department to provide the flu vaccination program to children at school again this year.
Every year, children are infected by the influenza virus, causing serious illness and missed school days.  Some children suffer serious complications, especially those with asthma, diabetes, and nervous system disorders.  Vaccination is the best way to protect your child from this potentially serious disease.
The Monroe County Schools flu vaccination clinic will be Wednesday, September 27 through Friday, September 29.  Consent forms will be sent home with students on September 7 th and should be returned to school no later than September 15 th .
The only vaccination available for the flu is now the shot. Flu mist is no longer available and can not be provided at any location. Please take advantage of this opportunity to get your child vaccinated, so your entire family can stay healthy this flu season.
Employees are encouraged to check their email account for information on the employee flu vaccination schedule.

Have you established your Infinite Campus Parent Portal access?  With this access, you can track the attendance and grades of all of your students.  Make sure your email address is on file, and look for instructions via email for this set up.  You can find the Infinite Campus Parent app in the Google Play Store or in the Apple App Store.

What's the difference between the student login and the parent portal?

When signed in as a student, users can view schedule, grades, attendance, reports, and demographic data.  They cannot update information.  They cannot access the Online Registration application.  For directions on setting up student Infinite Campus access, click here.

When signed in as a parent, the user has the ability to access information all of their students with one login through a drop down option.  When a student is selected, they can view  schedule, grades, attendance, reports, and demographic data.  They can also access update household and family members information if on a computer.  Through a computer interface, they can also access the Online Registration application to provide proof of residency documentation, update emergency contact information, and more.
