Thoughts From Pastor Glen

It's a beautiful thing to drive into the parking lot and see our trees trimmed and picked-up. Brian Blad has been doing a lot of the trimming with Duane Gilson and Steve Osterman gathering the branches in the dumpster. Please thank these faithful servants when you see them for their time and labor. We couldn't function without these willing volunteers.

The United Blood Mobile will be parked in our parking lot this Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. If you have not signed up to give blood, click here to see what time slots are open. This is a wonderful gift to give to those who need it. It's life-giving as we heard from Sharlah Reynolds, our blood drive coordinator.

Joe Tedrow showed me some pictures of our new altar that he is building for our sanctuary. It looks great and is very similar to the altar we currently have. All of our chancel furniture has been on loan from Desert Streams Lutheran Church in Surprise. They have been worshipping in a school all these years, and just recently purchased a building, and now they want their furniture back. Joe has been the primary craftsmen for most of the other sanctuary pieces. Eventually we hope to have a new pulpit and baptismal fount to complement the new altar. Joe Tedrow and Dave Torgersen among others, are working on constructing these new items.

I want to thank Bob Germadnik, who has been making the coffee for us on Sunday mornings for many years. Bob is unable to do this task any longer, so I'm looking for a volunteer who can come at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings, to make coffee, so it will be ready by 8:30 a.m. If you can serve in this capacity, please let me know.

Do you have October 1st marked on your calendar? There will only be one worship service on Sunday October 1st at 10:15 a.m. because of the 10th Anniversary Building Celebration immediately following the worship service. Our sanctuary will have a different look that weekend with tables setup in our worship space. The 10th Anniversary Committee has been working hard putting together pictures, memorabilia and PowerPoint presentations of the 18 year history of Spirit of Hope. Please offer invitations to past members, old friends and people who have shaped this ministry all these years. It's our hope that many of you will help share memories of what God has done in this parish. I am still accepting RSVPs, so we can get numbers for food, etc. If you think you and your friends will be on hand this historic day, please RSVP.

A member of our congregation saw the newest movie out on Martin Luther and highly recommended it.  It's a very limited showing.  The next show will be at Harkins Theatres Chandler Fashion 20 on Thursday, September 28th @ 6:30 p.m.  The offical name of the movie is "Martin Luther, the idea that changed the world."  This sounds like an excellent historical perspective and from what I've told it's very well done.

I want to encourage members to keep giving generously of their time, talent and treasures to the mission and work of Spirit of Hope. The lull of the summer months has gotten us behind in our general and building funds.

Peter asks Jesus, "How many times should I forgive a member of the church? As many as seven times? Jesus gives a shocking answer, "Not seven times, but seventy times seven". It's my hope that when you are confronted with the pain of harm, loss or conflict of another that you don't simply follow where your emotions take you (to choose to harm) but rather choose to heal and follow the desire that God has for us all, to live as forgiven people who work at forgiving others.

Peace & love,
Pastor Glen
