Samaritan Ministry
Homeless Awareness Sunday
This Sunday, September 24
Holy Comforter welcomes Samaritan Ministry of Greater Washington this Sunday at all three morning services. The Reverend David Wolf, Executive Director of Samaritan Ministry of Greater Washington and Larry Gooch, a successful participant of Samaritan Ministry's Next Steps program, will worship with us. The Adult Forum will also be dedicated to this topic while our Sunday School classes will participate in a mini information-gathering homeless walk-a-thon around our church's perimeter.

Samaritan Ministry is a Diocesan endorsed organization which helps the more than 11,000 people in the D.C. area who do not have a place to call home. 30,000 of these same people are unemployed. Samaritan Ministry empowers people to make positive life changes one step at a time.

To learn more, visit the Samaritan Ministry website HERE and read participant stories HERE. Questions? Contact Candace Dibblee, our parish representative for Samaritan Ministry.
Join the Sunday School Teachers Ministry
Please consider joining our team of Sunday School teachers as we take an adventure through the Bible this year with our incredible students. You do not need to have teaching experience, as the curriculum lays out easy-to-use activities, stories, and games that are appropriate for each age level. There is very minimal prep work and we are only asking teachers to commit to teaching twice a month. Apply online HERE. Or download a printable application form HERE, fill it out and bring it to the Children's Ministries table in the narthex this Sunday.

Be a Sunday School Shepherd
Shepherds will help with check-in, monitoring halls, exits and stairwells. No teaching required. You will be an integral extra set of eyes to make sure our children are safe and loved. Commitment is only twice a month. Register online HERE (Choose "Shepard" under "Position Applying For"). Or download a printable application form HERE, fill it out and drop it off in the box outside Lauren Breeden's office.

Register for Sunday School
This year, Sunday School will utilize the Gospel Project Curriculum developed by LifeWay Christian Resources. This three-year curriculum follows a chronological journey through the storyline of Scripture. Watch a video about the Gospel Project Curriculum HERE. Register online HERE. Or download a printable registration form HERE, fill it out and drop it off in the box outside Lauren Breeden's office.

Have questions? Please contact Lauren Breeden.

Don't worry if you don't have a dream, we will show you how to work with that as well! The cost is $150 for a full participant and $80 for an observer/intercessor, with a 50% deposit due on October 6. Questions? Contact Alexandra MacCracken.

Recovery Sunday is October 1

And learn how our faith provides support and hope to those seeking recovery. We will close our Recovery Sunday program with a Recovery Eucharist in the Chapel at 3 p.m.

Blessing of the Animals
Saturday, October 7, 5 p.m. in the Front Circle
Followed by First Saturday Social & Yappy Hour
Bring your dogs, cats or other animal companions for the Blessing of the Animals, as we celebrate St. Francis. Share your blessing by bringing pet food and toys to be given to a nearby animal shelter. Celebrate the role that our pets and animal companions play in our lives.
FOYERS Fall-Winter Round
Sign up through October 1
Enjoy fellowship and good food in small groups. Foyers meet once a month (at a time scheduled within each group) to share a meal and friendship. It's a great way to get to know people. Both adult groups and groups of families with young children are forming. For the adult groups, there is a new additional option for those who prefer to meet in restaurants. Sign up for the fall-winter round in the narthex this Sunday through October 1 or notify Shelia Creswell. You must sign up to be included in the fall round.
Pennywise Needs Volunteers!
Want an easy way to make church friends? Pennywise needs volunteers -- especially on Thursdays when we are open from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Once a month you would work a 2-hour shift at the front desk either checking out customers on the cash register or bagging items the customer purchased. Alternatively, if you're looking for something a little more detailed, we have consignment shifts open mornings (only) from 10 a.m. until 12 or 12:30 p.m. The 10-12 or 12-2 shift is ideal for mother looking for something to do away from the house, as FREE childcare is offered (when available) at the church while you work! Please volunteer 2 hours a month to keep this important ministry going. We are in great need of your assistance and it's a very rewarding way to help the church. Interested? Please contact Linda Khan.
