Our Mission
"The Danville-Boyle County Chamber of Commerce exists to advance the prosperity and well-being of the business community, particularly its members, with a goal of improving the quality of life in this community."

Paula's ponderings
Hello Members,

Yesterday, the EDP voted to restructure their board of directors. This follows the recommendations of the strategic plan, written by RKG & Associates, that was undertaken this past year.  As part of the restructuring, the Chamber has an advisory seat on the EDP board of directors.  We are looking to our members to see if there is a member with an interest in economic development who would serve in this capacity. If you, or another member you know, would like to attend EDP meetings as our Chamber representative, please contact me at the Chamber. (236-2361, ext. 121.)

Interested in hosting a Business After Hours in 2018 - or other sponsorship opportunities? Contact the Chamber.  We are preparing to sell all of those during the Total Resource Campaign in the next month.

You can still attend the our Disaster Preparedness workshop tomorrow morning. S ponsored by Serv Pro of Versailles, Nicholasville, and Danville, it is September 21 from 8:30- 9:45 a.m. at the Boyle County Public Library. As part of the National Preparedness Month, we have two presenters; one from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and one from the Small Business Administration (SBA) sharing great information on how to prepare and what to do after a disaster strikes. You will have handouts and workbooks to take with you after the workshop. Thanks to our sponsor, we will offer continental breakfast, and ServPro will have materials for you to take home, as well. Please call the Chamber office to register at 236-2361, ext. 120. We need an accurate count so our presenters will know how many handouts to bring.   This is a regional workshop with Mercer, Garrard and Lincoln Chambers, as well as the Heart of Danville. PLEASE RSVP by calling 859-236-2361, ext. 120.

Tomorrow, Thursday, September 21, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Holiday Inn Express & Suites will host our Business After Hours. Join GM Melissa Fightmaster and her staff as they showcase their new property. This is also a chance to learn about our new health insurance program as a representative will be at the event to discuss the details and answer questions with you individually.

We need mentors for our Entrepreneurship class at Boyle County High School. Can you give a total of five hours between October 25 and December 6, because we could use your help! Please let me know if you can join us in preparing our business leaders of the future!

The Wayfinding consultant held a second meeting with interested business owners and the public last night.  He shared destination points and samples of signage that could be used. Ways to identify locations, with the use of color on signs was also discussed.  A another meeting to continue the process will occur in the next couple weeks.

Please feel free to contact me: 859-236-2361 Ext. 121, 859-583-6540 or email [email protected]

EDP Board Votes New Structure
As you may have read in today's newspaper, the Economic Development Partnership voted to restructure their board.  The Advocate Messenger coverage can be read here.

Your Chamber, through your Chairperson, voted no because we feel the current make up of EDP 2.0 has too many public seats, with no provision to restrict the number of elected officials that fill those seats. The current bylaws, as accepted yesterday, allow an elected official to also be the Chairman of the EDP, which, we believe, is a conflict of interest. By removing the directors of the Chamber, CVB, the Heart of Danville and the Main Street Perryville programs as voting members of the board, we think we remove the voice of smaller businesses. Notes Lisa Knetsche, Chamber Board Chairperson, " "There's a lot of business and non-profits that are small," she said. "With the chamber on the board in the past, we've always had a vote that represented that voice, as did the Heart (of Danville) and Main Street Perryville ... a lot of those players (on the new board) now are not the smaller entities."

Concludes Knetsche, "The majority vote of the partners is to restructure, and we are a team player. The mission of the Chamber has not changed; we want continued success for our community. We will continue to work on behalf of businesses and will work, where appropriate, with the EDP for that continued success."

IRS Newswire - Don't Take the Bait
Think a data breach can't happen to you? Think again... "Don't Take the Bait."
Tax professionals increasingly are targets of national and international cybercriminal syndicates that are well funded, digitally adept and tax savvy. Each week the IRS receives three to five reports of data breaches at tax professionals' offices. That rate is not sustainable.
To assist tax practitioners to better protect themselves, the IRS, state tax agencies and the tax industry, partnering as the Security Summit, have launched a 10-week "   Don't take the Bait" campaign detailing specific scam tactics and how to counter them.  These news items are being issued each Tuesday.

Here are the first three news releases plus an associated fact sheet.
