Cultivating an Engaged Junior Board and Sustaining Donor Retention Webinar
Wednesday, Sept. 27
Noon-1 p.m. EDT
On Wednesday, Sept. 27, Veronica Brown, director of individual & major gifts at the Chicago Public Library Foundation, will highlight how the foundation established a stellar group of young professionals who are dedicated to the mission of providing critical funding support for innovative programs at Chicago Public Library.
Brown will discuss how the foundation's fundraising board was founded, share the board structure and discuss its role within the larger organization, as well as their activities and successes. Brown will offer a blue print of this successful board for other library foundations to follow.
Participants will also hear from Jonna Ward, CEO of the Seattle Public Library Foundation. Ward will share her foundation's model for donor retention and provide ways to measure retention. Ward will explain why measurement is important and will offer three practical applications that can transform how you work. A handout will be provided for you to use for reference and future use.
ULC directors, deputies and development teams are encouraged to register for this informative webinar about foundation boards and funding structures.

ULC and Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation to Work to Strengthen Libraries' Support for Entrepreneurship
ULC is proud to announce a new partnership with the
Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation! With the support of the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, ULC will begin a new initiative this fall to strengthen the public library as a critical support for entrepreneurship.
Preliminary research has highlighted a need to update how libraries support all 21st century entrepreneurs and an opportunity to significantly enhance the capacity of public libraries to create entrepreneurial hubs that will advance social equity and contribute to community economic health.
Through research and member outreach, ULC will identify
partners and practices that will allow us to produce benchmarks for public libraries to support underrepresented communities in entrepreneurship.
Stay tuned for more information about this exciting project!

Chicago's Municipal IDs to
Act as Library Cards and Provide Residents with Access to Public Transportation
Chicago's municipal IDs for immigrants living in the city without documentation will also serve to enc
ourage immigrants to visit their local Chicago Public Library branches. Additionally, residents can use these IDs to access Chicago's public transportation system. This innovative program reaffirms CPL's status as a community anchor while increasing the library's ability to promote lifelong education and economic development for Chicago residents. Through this initiative, Chicago is setting the bar for city-library partnerships that benefit the traditionally underserved residents within their community.

Participate in Developing a Global Vision for Public Libraries
In 2014, the ULC Executive Board, on behalf of all members, signed on to the the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions Lyon Declaration that was instrumental for informing the development of the current United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The role of public libraries is embedded in all of the 17 U.N. Sustainable Development Goals from access to information to economic development.
IFLA is now developing a Global Vision to create a unified approach to addressing and making headway on the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals. To inform their work, IFLA needs the input of North American public libraries. Please help shape the global conversation by completing this short survey.
