This is not a half-baked idea: Outer-worldly Chef Blaine is doing a Clam Bake on the Grace Restaurant patio Friday night, featuring a pre-eats reception and four courses, all with wine. This may be fishy, but it's not fake news: The menu includes King salmon, clam chowder, clams, scallops, lobster, prawns, mussels, crab and guppies. OK, no guppies. If you're similar to Mr. B, fish is fab, but you still gotta have your bacon. May B direct you to a sider of the bacon-wrapped filed stuffed with aged cheddar and mushrooms. Say grace if you win this fine dining experience for two from Adam (keeping up with the) Jones.
 Piano man: When Tony DeSare and the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra take to the Bass Hall stage for I Love a Piano, would it be a guess to say they'll deliver that Irving Berlin classic? Pre-event PR says the concert ends with George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue and in between, the ivories will be tickled to the tunes of Elton John, Ray Charles, John Lennon, Billy Joel and more. This is a century's worth of the best in piano pops and the Symphony's Melanie (what the) Hecht strummed a few bars and voila, B2B Insider has two tickets for the Sunday Oct. 15 performance.

Strong messages for girls: About 40 years ago, in Arlington, the Arlington Girls Club was formed. 8 girls, not even a softball team. Today, Girls Inc. of Tarrant County has Arlington and Fort Worth locations and serves hundreds of girls daily and more than 11,000 annually. The message? Inspire all girls to be strong, smart and bold to the issues that girls face today. Thousands will celebrate that empowering mission with the Oct. 20 Day of the Girl March at the west lawn of the Tarrant County Courthouse on Main Street. Valerie Salter-of-the-earth sent along a registration, a t-shirt and a spot to the VIP after-party for two readers.

Defining Stephen King: Carla Storey's job title at Tarrant County Homeless Coalition is System Integration Director. The position is not IT, she says. Then what is it if not IT? Says Carla: "The seamless integration of services to the less fortunate."
Plan-tastic: The Chamber expects to release its economic development plan during October, take comments and do some fundraising, then re-release a final version in November. The plan is based on five tenets - 1) Business Attraction; 2) Talent Development, Retention and Attraction; 3) Small Business and Entrepreneur Support; 4) Existing Business Retention and Expansion; and 5) Issues Advocacy. There also are two pertinent across-the-board items for those five - International Business and Quality of Place. Some resulting possibilities:
- A proactive approach to development, working with partner entities, instead of a shotgun/reactive approach.
- The Chamber offering free resources to tell the stories of entrepreneurs and small businesses. Could also be some cash, if grants or gifts materialize.
- A workforce training coalition of the Chamber, Tarrant County College and Workforce Solutions. Looking at workforce as demand-driven, from the employers view. Industries most likely are manufacturing, healthcare and aviation.
 Steak <cq> to the heart? David George, western aficionado and Pharoah of financial planning at Raymond James, bought a 1,400-pound black angus at the highly-touted 44 Farms in Cameron, Tx. Named her Betsy. Then mentioned that Buffalo West Restaurant was the only Fort Worth restaurant serving 44 Farms steaks. For Betsy's sake, Mr. B hopes David wasn't "pre-planning" her future.
Influx & housing: Gayle Davis, a realtor with Keller Williams, says home sales have tapered but leasing has taken off. Her lease properties are mostly going to displaced Houston-area families.
Yukking it up: Michele Klepser of Signarama says her office on Foch St. is conveniently located to area drinking holes. "Come visit me first," she said, "then take me with you." She says Signarama's minimum order is just $50, but "the sky's the limit" for your signage and advertising needs.
From A-to-Z: At some Chamber events, attendees have an opportunity to introduce themselves to all attendees. Said ActionCoach's David Zipprich: "This is one of the few times I haven't had to go last."

Why wasn't he Zzzzz-ing? Carlo Capua recently entered to win a restaurant prize from B2B Insider. The owner/operator of Z's Café and Catering could have cooked it hisownself. More interesting, the entry came from a distant time zone, Mbabane, Swaziland in South Africa. He was repping Fort Worth Sister Cities and Rotary Fort Worth, delivering 292 wheelchairs, handing out made-in-Fort Worth suckers and TCU swag. He also managed to hob-nob with the King.
Here's how to party: InterConnect Wiring, brother and sister John Ashour and Clare McGarrey, celebrated its 25th year in business with commemorative t-shirts at the 2017 F-16 Technical Coordination Group World Wide Review event last week in Utah. Interconnect is a supplier to Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, among others.
 The economic winds of hurricanes: At a luncheon earlier this month, Robert Dye, the Senior VP and Chief Economist for Comerica Bank, was cautious about the stock market. He told a luncheon group that the "music will stop at some point. There will be a correction. But it's improbable that we'll go through a similar recession." A couple of other comments:
- Historically after hurricanes, industrials and the well-insured come back stronger. Katrina was an exception because of the "huge displacement of population." The downside is to those with limited insurance, emergency expenses, lost wages and about a 15 percent loss in housing values.
- Energy troubles hurt Fort Worth during 2014-15. Since 2016, though, Fort Worth's job and business growth has rebounded to near the level of Dallas.
- Harvey will jump-start auto sales. But it will only be temporary, maybe a few months.
- We are in third longest economic expansion in history. Housing usually leads, but is a follower in this cycle.
XV: Big anniversary for the
Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl. As part of the celebration of 15 years, there will be selection of the top 15 all-time plays, the all-15th all-star team and a ticket promotion on the 15th of each month leading up to the Dec. 23 game at
TCU.
